Thanks Sequoia!!

have any internationals actually received a dhl notice email yet??? :s

Sequoia - did most people get what they interviewed for or were a lot bumped down? Sorry to be a pest…

Josie:
Well this year USC has:
Trustees 128
Presidentials 332
Deans 117

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergr...file2008v3.pdf

Those are only the students who matriculated. Since scholarship recipients are top students, many go elsewhere so the number of scholarships offered is much higher.

It’s hard to say how many actually got what they interviewed for. Last year I believe it was around 60 to 70%.

Best of luck, chances look very good!

just checked link, for some reason it doesn’t work at the moment, but I do know those are correct figures.

Thanks - anyone hear anything yet?

Went to get our mail today, saw something from USC admissions postmarked March 30th, but it was in an invitation sized envelope. I think it is an invitation for the local 2009 neighborhood reception event in Southen California. We got an email invitation for that yesteday too. Guess we wait another day…

Anyone know what the package will look like?

Last year it was a regular thin business size white envelope. Just one letter inside. But a very valuable letter! Good luck everyone.

Thanks madbean, good to know what to look for since I was faked out by that envelope today!! lol

I remember last year well. My daughter caused a bit of a panic in the neighbourhood when she let out a loud scream in the street after tearing the envelope open.

any other SoCalers?? nothing still??

nothing in orange county again, that stupid little envelope mad me mad haha

My S’s friend got his scholarship letter today. He goes to the same HS as my S in South Orange county.

He was admitted to the Cinema program and interviewed for Trustee, but got the Director’s Scholarship instead ($4,000 per year for four years).

He is now wondering if he’ll be able to afford USC. I told him to wait and see his Financial Aid Package, but that is pretty deflating for him.

We got no letter in the mail today so I don’t know if that is a bad sign or not. My S interviewed for Presidential so I don’t know if letters all go out at the same time or not.

Hopefully we’ll get some notification one way or the other by tomorrow.

Fight On!

is there a director’s scholarship? do you mean the Dean’s scholarship which is 1/4 tuition? We were told last year that everyone who had an interview would at least get the 1/4 tuition.

did anyone get or hear anything about the SCions scholarship?

nothing in orange county except the invitation for the neighborhood reception, such a deflating feeling.
fyi i’m up for the presidential scholarship.

So is it too late to apply for the national merit scholarship?
Damn. I faxed in the college choice last night.

bmom. That is what we were hoping too that the Dean’s would be the worst case scenario, but I have heard of Trustee’s getting nothing at all.
The Director’s is like a consolation prize award, I found a thread from 2006 where several Presidential candidates got Directors instead:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/162515-rejected-presidential-scholarship.html?highlight=director’s+scholarship

My son’s friend is Student Body Pres, top of his class, and well rounded with ec’s and he was demoted to Director’s. My expectations of getting Presidential are not very high now, but it will be a pleasant surprise if we get any kind of award at all at this point.

Fight On!

greeneyes, my son is headed to USC tonight to interview for the SCion. Interviews are going at least until this Saturday as far as I know.

Mono 14: Did you put down USC as your FIRST CHOICE for the national merit scholarship?
Are you sure that National Merit Corp. received your FAX? i.e. do you have receipt of them receiving your FAX?

College Frenzy: I am sorry to hear that your son’s friend did not get the Trustee’s scholarship. Can he apply for financial aid? Do you think you would be eligible for financial aid no matter what the merit scholarship outcome is? I can say this, one advantage of financial aid is that many (or most?) on campus jobs are for work-study students (need to be on financial aid to have work-study). I suggest you all wait and see what the financial aid package is before making any major college choice decisions.

CollegeFrenzy, so sorry to hear the news about your son’s friend’s low-ish award. Hmm. The thing is, it’s the specific School/Major that makes the determination of which kids are offered which specific award and SCA looks for kids who demonstrate creative vision and have strong voices for the future of film, whatever that might be (!!!) If a Trustee/Presidential candidate shows up in the interview with that sort of fire in their eyes and is able to articulate their vision it really helps. I would think each School/Department may look at leadership in a different way. Don’t give up hope.

When our son got his letter saying he got the Trustee, there was no screaming in the streets like with Sequoia’s D. There was stunned silence. We were really really shocked and terrifically grateful to USC.
