Scholarship Essay (*shortened & revised version of my previous post...)

I think i've finally chosen the question titled "My Most Memorable Life Experience (or Life Challenge)". (You don't agree with my mom--who keep suggesting to me that i should choose the other topic, "My Life Goal (or My Dreams" and write about my goal to be a doctor to help people and the academic or extracurriculars I've done to lead me towards it--- cos she says that kids my age has yet enough memorable life experience to make a deep meaningul essay, or do you agree with her too? )

Anyways, my question is... so, I think i may want to about my whole studying abroad experience, especially about my first roommate ever in my first year here in the US. I had a very good time living with her, we're really good friends still, and i think I had learnt a few important things too-- both from her, and from my year abroad, meeting with different people, and living alone now in my 3rd year (Or should I just narrow my essay down to just focusing on this roommate to keep the essay more focused? (600words)

Okay---Getting to my main QUESTION: Also, but then, from the notes I wrote out when I brainstormed for this topic on studying abroad, living with this roommate, I found NOwhere in it that it mentioned my academic achievements, extracurriculars, and like other priorities setting for my career aspirations, mostly just little lessons that I've learnt.... is that okay? (i.e. would my resume suffice in terms of letting the committee know about those achievements? or should I try to find somewhere to squeeze them into my essay too?)
