Would writing about a potential classmate who has been financially impoverished or had economic difficulties be a bad choice? They mention “economics” in the question, but I’m curious if it would a) come across as arrogant, regardless of the tone I actually use or b) lead the readers to say “hey, this kid already has money, he doesn’t need the scholarship” even though its merit based
