Scholarship in college

Hey CC, I have a question to ask for current students at any colleges.
I am a senior international student who have applied to following schools:

Grinnell College
Colby College
Carleton College
Emory University
Upenn- Wharton
Princeton University
Cornell University
Georgetown university
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
Middlebury
University of Southern California
The George Washington university

I had some personal issues in the beginning phase of administration and missed the period of scholarship application. Finance is not a big issue for me but would like to earn scholarship to reduce my parents burden.
Aside the fact that whether I will be accepted or not, let’s just assume that I am enrolled in one of the colleges up there.
I have a question whether colleges will provide merit scholarship to currently enrolled students who are excelling in the college. Would there be opportunities for international students earn merit scholarship or other ways to fund tuition while in enrollment at the college? I am aware of the fact that they will be very competitive but I just need to know whether merit scholarship exist or not. I would prefer any college students in any college to answer! Thanks

You need to check with EACH college. In the vast majority of cases, merit aid is awarded to incoming freshmen…not newly to upperclass students.

How much money do,you think you will need?

I hope you know that Penn, Princeton, Cornell, Colby, Georgetown and Middlebury offer no merit aid to anyone. Possibly Emory too.

I don’t think University of Michigan gives aid to international students.

Ok thanks for the info. The more money the better it is. Like I said, I am not in a desperate need for money but if there’s opportunity available at the college why not get the money  I just don’t want to relieve some financial pressure off my parents

Emory definitely awards merit aid to incoming freshman - there are several merit scholarships, but like most colleges the deadline for merit aid is earlier than the application for RD - I believe it was the same due date as ED but it may not have passed. Look at each website carefully and see if there are any merit awards whose deadlines have not passed. Merit aid for students who are already enrolled are very very rare and international students are at a disadvantage. I know Tulane offers some merit aid to RD applicants and may have later deadlines if you want to consider Tulane. Northeastern U in Boston also offers a good amount of merit aid and I think they are more generous to international students than some other schools. Good luck!

It is not too late to apply for financial aid (also scarce for international students) if you think your income is low enough to qualify. Even if you receive just a loan offer (which needs to be paid back), it may help your family and increase your chances at receiving a scholarship.

Keep in mind that with the exception of Princeton, none of the schools on your list are need blind to international students . This means that your ability to pay will be a factor in the admissions process. If your family can afford to pay and you are a viable student, you have upped your chances of being accepted in the international pool of candidates.
