Scholarship Information

Are scholarship recipients eligible for any special programs - academic or residential. Some other schools appear to be offering guaranteed 4 years dorm accommodation to scholarship recipients, space in a honors dorm, enrollment in a seminar program, opportunity to do a faculty supervised bachelor’s thesis. Does USC offer anything to scholarship recipients other than tuition relief?

Has USC provided information that accurately indicates the number of students interviewing for the Trustee scholarship in comparison to number and type of merit scholarships (Trustee, Presidential, Deans) offered to these same students? I'm not talking about the numbers for students who choose to accept the offers and enroll as noted in post #39. I am wondering about all the offers for all the Trustee interviewees, whether or not they choose to attend USC. Is this information available for past years?

Official notification came in mail today.
Some info:
Very nice letter and a brochure.
175 students per date (2 days) (brochure is for Trustees so not sure about Presidential numbers, maybe also 175 for each of 3 days?)
Attendence is required.
Eligibility for Thematic Option and living space in Dean's Halls if named Trustees scholar.
Interview will determine selection (eek)
Lots of activities/tours/presentations
Those flying into LA will have part of ticket price paid. Travel arrangements booked through USC.
Special hotel rate.
There appears to be a $50 fee/person

so am i the only one that the trick from post #14 doesnt work for? now i feel really left out :( it seems weird b/c from what everyone's been saying being accepted early means that you are up for merit based scholarships. maybe im an exception. i guess its not that big of a deal since being national merit is essentially the same as getting the presidential.. but trustee would have been nice. o well

I received my info for Trustee today in the mail. I am also a merit semi-finalist (hopefully a finalist). If I do become a finalist then does this mean that I automatically get Presidential if I don't get Trustee?

I'm confused! Where does it say that Merit finalist is an automatic Presidential?

USC Financial Aid

good luck! I'm hosting students this year who come for interviews, should be fun. The year since mine seems to have gone by very quickly :)

thanks! Any advise on the interview? My family and I are very excited for this opportunity.

I read in the undergraduate application that national merit finalists that name USC as their first choice college w/ the national merit scholarship corporation get half tuition, which is essentially presidential, right?

One of the best things you can do to get ready for your interview- read over your application, especially your quick takes. The people interviewing you get a few minutes before you come in to look over your application and come up with some relevant questions. I know that I was asked about my inspirational quote, which I barely remembered. Luckily, I knew the general idea, so my answer to their question was decent. More advice later.

yes definitely look over the quick takes and essays/short answers.

i remember i wrote about my grandma a lot, but i wrote that my dad was the person i looked up to most or something, so they asked me why i chose him over my grandma, stuff like that. they just want to know more about you. it's very conversational and laid back, so just be articulate and friendly

thanks everyone! much appreciated.

I am a Nat'l Merit Semifinalist and will probably become Finalist (with the 90% acceptance rate), so if I name USC my first choice to the Nat'l Merit Corp, I get half-tuition to USC.
Also, I got an interview for the Presidential scholarship (half-tuition), so it even worth interviewing if I can get the half-tuition through Nat'l Merit, assuming I go to USC?

Yeah, you should. There's always a slight chance you could get bumped to Trustee if your interview is superb.

^hmmm, never heard of that.

Nikara- would you confirm? Can you be bumped up to Trustee from Presidential?

Yes, you can, but it is very rare.

did anyone else who has been accepted apply for the jewish leadership scholarship?

Getting bumped up is DEFINITELY possible guys. My older sister was bumped up from the national merit one to trustee ! Im hoping they will do the same for my stepbrother since he is very deserving of the trustee one.

So I saw my trustee thing by looking at the link provided in this thread .. is it weird that I havent gotten the letter yet when I got the acceptance one monday?

^ My D received her acceptance in tha mail last Saturday, and didn't get the Trustee letter till yesterday. So give it a couple of days. It will come.

Lol, I cannot even log onto the RSVP website; it says that my USC ID and last name combination are incorrect even though I'm copying the USC ID from the bar codes they sent me, as well as from my application online!

I'm having the same issue.

have you guys received your acceptance letters yet? Because so far everyone that it's worked for had already been accepted.
