Scholarship letter received today

Daughter received the $40,000 out of state scholarship today in the mail.

The letter says the competitive scholarships will be announced early February. Does anyone know when? We’re wondering if she is still in the running for the full tuition scholarships or if those came out today too & this is all they are offering her.

We’re in the same boat. Just got the 40K offer today.

When I called financial aid last Fall to ask about the full tuition scholarship I was told that last year there were hundreds of scholarships given out. I can’t remember the exact number. Maybe around 300???

Good luck! I will post if we hear anything.

Just received an invitation in the mail today for merit weekend. In there it says competitive scholarship recipients will be notified no later than April 1.

April 1st? Hopefully decisions will be made this month like it sounds like they have in years past. I just know that April is a long way away especially with the recommended housing application ‘deadline’ for students on the early action track.

D was told February 15th. She interviewed back in October. We’re waiting for a decision to visit.

I hope you’re right. I didn’t receive an interview but have the stats to be competitive (I hope at least) for the Presidential. Good luck to everyone on the 15th!

This merit weekend doesn’t seem to be for interviews. It’s more like an open house for students who were given merit scholarships to tour campus & visit departments. There’s a $300 fee for student. Parents are $30. It says attendence to this will not carry any weight towards competitive scholarships. I think we are going to skip it.

Students who attend Merit Weekend (assuming it will be like previous years) will have the opportunity to meet with an advisor and will be able to proceed with priority registration for classes without officially committing to UK.

In addition, kids can get their student ID, take the foreign language placement test, and get a feel for the other smarty pants kids who will likely be attending UK in the fall.

After Merit Weekend, your student will be all set for the fall semester, and will jump right in at Rush, or K-Week.

If UK is a serious contender on your short list, I highly recommend attending Merit Weekend.

We have already registered for the 3rd weekend. It’s a great chance to see the school again and hopefully be the final push to get her to select UK over her other two options. Really looking forward to the advisor meeting.

@mary879800, 300 doesn’t sound like much more than the total of Patterson and Singletary awardees.

@FriscoTXDad we may see you in late March! we’ll also see the Comp Science, while there.
Our NMF letter says to accept offer by May 1

Looking forward to the weekend. We are flying in Thursday night and hoping to setup a few visits with some folks in the engineering school. She is interested in Mechanical. She is still trying to decide between UK and Texas A&M. While A&M is ranked significantly higher they are only offering a 25% scholarship compared to the full room and board offer with her National Hispanic Scholar designation. Hoping this trip can convince her UK will be just a good of an education and experience.

Good luck @FriscoTXDad ! We loved Lexington when we went to visit! We are heading back in April to speak to Honors and to visit the departments that she is interested in. My only hope is that they will still offer Patterson to NMF for Fall 2018.

I predict Patterson will be offered in the future!

@2sunny I hope so! Why do you think so?

@crazy4info sending you a PM

@FriscoTXDad - did you get back to Kentucky? If so, how was it?

@crazy4info We are headed up for Merit Weekend on Friday. Really looking forward it. I’ll post an update next week on the experience. My D has to decide bwteen UK and Texas A&M - hopefully it’s BBN!

I just did research on KY, and learned that KY has a goal to become the Top 20 public research university by 2020.
