So there are only 100 University Scholarships? Yay! I'm really proud to get one because so few are given.

My friend claims that some of the scholarships are given based on athletics instead of academic merit. Plausible for a DIII uber-intellectual school? One recipient of the full-tuition scholarship I know of (based on third hand hearsay...) also happens to be a good runner. Dunno about academics.

I also got the 10K scholarship!! So happy right now! Chicago was my first choice!

chronicidal - Doubtful - not because it's an intellectual DIII school (I've heard of others doing that), but because I got a $10K one. My only athletic activity has been junior varsity cross country, and I indicated on my app that I didn't intend to continue it in college. (I guess there is a small chance, though, that athletics are really important for the full ride scholarships...)

I got a $10,000 one too. I played sports freshman and sophomore year, but I didn't even include it in my app and I know no one else mentioned it either. Zero chance it was for athletics.

i got one too, and i'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with athletics. totally unexpected; i didn't even know chicago gave merit aid.

Roamorse! :O)

So the scholarship offers would have been in the offer of admission packet? Hmm, that's disheartening. I really could've used that merit money. I also forgot to change my top choice for NMF to U of Chicago. Do you think FA will be generous? On the Office of College Aid site it says that the average aid for my family's income bracket is roughly $30,500. I'm an only child so should I expect significantly less than $30k?

I was accepted EA, so when should I receive merit information/final financial aid information?

diginetgod: I applied EA and using the "average aid" estimates, we were in the $30,000-ish aid range, but the financial aid estimate I received in December only had a $9000 grant and a nice smattering of student loan options. I'm an only child as well, and we have a good amount of home equity (our mortgage is nearly paid off).

dae! are you going to chicago for sure?

I really, really, really, really hope so...(In fact I've already enrolled, officially, just to get first choice housing, haha) But then again my parents are quite reluctant to let me go sans a huge scholarship or something. Bah.

How about you?
