Hey guys.
I'm thinking to apply for several scholarships. But I heard that appyling for the scholarships lowers the acceptance rate.
Is it really true? Or will they consider scholarships after I get accepted?
I'm international students by the way, from East Asia.
I'm little bit confusing and nervous as the deadline is really coming soon!
Anybody can help me with this question?
Thanks a lot :)

Explain the logic behind the claim of scholarships lower acceptance rate? Thatbdoesnt even make sense

minnie - are you referring to need based aid or academic scholarships? Financial aid and Merit scholarships are different. Financial aid is need based aid. Merit Scholarships are based on high academic statistics.

If you are talking about need based financial aid, then yes at some schools applying for financial aid will reduce your chance of being accepted. Some schools are need aware, meaning they take a students need into account when making admissions decisions. Other schools are need blind, which means they do not take financial need into account when making admissions decisions. Many schools are need aware for International students, but some are not.

Merit scholarships are a different thing altogether. Applying for those does not have an impact on admissions. Usually people who qualify for merit scholarships from the school are very desirable to the school, which is why they qualify for merit scholarships. However, the most generous schools such as the Ivies, do not give merit scholarships - only need based awards.
