I’m currently in the process of applying to IU and was really wondering how much merit money I will receive and what exactly the SSA requirements are for the informatics school. I know provosts gives 1 - 8,000k any info would help.
My GPA is a 3.9 and ACT 28.
Look at the 25-75th percentile ACT scores for IU. If your score isn’t well above the 75th percentile, then it’s unlikely you’ll get much, if any, merit money.
I don’t think that’s necessarily right at all… IU says they don’t chart there merit money at all and give differently towards each applicant… I’m just wondering what some people got in the past for there GPA and Test scores.
IU Scholarship Grants for the past year or two are MUCH lower than in previous years, so keep this in mind when looking at posts.
Your stats will be lucky to net you more than 5k, but it will depend on where you’re coming from and your other stats. Take the ACT again and boost your score.
Like other schools, IU plays games to attract people from areas or groups they need to balance their demographics.
Would a 28 ACT improve anything at all? I know other IU schools in which a 28 is there cut off for max scholarship money
I don’t think those numbers will lead to any scholarships from the SOICS for a few reasons. First, SOICS is one of the fastest growing schools on campus. I don’t recall the specific numbers, but there are more and more students every year. Both of my kids are SOICS grads. In just the three years since the older one graduated, the grad recognition ceremony went from a dinner for grads and families to typical lecture type seating and an overflow room. More students means fewer resources and tougher standards. In 2011, DS was a direct admit to SOICS with a GPA well above 4.0 and higher test scores (around 1400 SAT–about the same as 32 ACT) than you have indicated. He received a $500/year scholarship. A few of his high school classmates received similar amounts with similar and higher stats. Again, this was a few years ago when there were far fewer students interested in SOICS
Was the $500 SOICS scholarship in addition to another scholarship to IU?
Yes, the $500 scholarship was a Direct admit scholarship good for 4 years. He also received some other scholarship from SOIC that year for $1000 year, but it was only a 1 year thing. Those were in addition to the large IU merit scholarship he received. I believe it was the last year that was $9000 for instate students.
Daughter did not start off in SOIC so she didn’t receive a direct admit scholarship. She did apply for several SOIC scholarships during her freshman year, and received one that was worth about $2500 for her remaining time there. Her college GPA at that time was above 3.9 and remained there until graduation.
Son also applied for those scholarships. His GPA was also above 3.9 the first time he applied. It fell to 3.7-3.8 or so. He didn’t get any additional scholarship money while enrolled.
