Would 34 be the score that would get me a full tuition or will a slightly lower score do the trick as well?

eharr3, I got full tuition with 33 ACT/1450 SAT

My DS got full tuition with a 32 ACT/1490 SAT

My daughter’s ACT score (30) would not have gotten full tuition but she did much better on SAT 1490= full OOS tuition.

Just remember there is no guarantee of a full tuition scholarship — do your best and see what happens :)

A 30 ACT would not be close to qualifying for a full tuition scholarship. Good thing she did MUCH better on the SAT.

[ACT-SAT Concordance](http://www.act.org/aap/concordance/)

Would a 30 ACT be good enough for the 10k scholarship for out of state?

It doesn’t equate to 1400, so probably not.

eharr3, you keep asking the same question all different ways. We can’t give you a different answer. It’s 1400 for partial scholarship, 1450 for full-tuition scholarship, and nothing we tell you is going to change that. I’m sorry.

Rather than fretting on a bulletin board, use your time to try to raise your scores.

^^^^^^
Seriously good advice.

Thanks for the info. I have seen on other threads that Pitt is actively recruiting top scoring students from out of state to increase its ranking.

What would you think the chances would be for my S – 760 Math 790 Writing 800 crit. reading, 3.92 GPA, 3 AP classes (AP UsHist 5 Calc BC 5, forgot the third).

Thanks for your thoughts…

Your son has an excellent chance of getting merit money. He has a combined 1560. Great score, and congrats to him! He should apply to Pitt reasonably early to make sure the money hasn’t run out. What does your son want to study?

If he is interested in PITT, just apply and see what they offer. Just remember there is no guarantee of merit money but your son’s scores are great!

There are other schools that offer merit money based on SAT scores, have you checked financial aid and scholarship for more info? Here is a link to one of the threads: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/848226-important-links-automatic-guaranteed-merit-scholarships.html?highlight=merit+aid

minnphd, your son might have a shot at a Chancellor’s Scholarship at Pitt depending on his other stats, ECs, etc. Right now I’d say likely full tuition, max full ride.

Also, is your son a NMF? There’s a whole thread about those scholarships at various schools.

There is considerable competition for merit money. My son had M and V 1420, ACT 32 , Math and physics subject tests of 800 each but no merit money. He applied early. We are not complaining-just saying applicants should not assume merit money. He chose Pitt over private colleges that did offer merit $$$

Yup, like I said nothing is guaranteed. Don’t expect to get the full tuition just because you have high stats. There have been students with tippy top stats that received nothing or less than full tuition.

Pitt’s app is an easy one and writing the essay for scholarship consideration is time well spent. Apply early, hear early. It is really nice for the kids to have an acceptance AND a nice scholarship early.
