AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

5 days and counting.

cathymee, any chance it would come before feb 1st?

getoutta
keeping fingers crossed for you..it does say BY Feb 1...
I'm so pulling for you, I know the offer would make such a difference for you especially....
don't know the answer,S was called as he was a "runner up"..he was # 41 on the list and someone turned down the offer of the weekend ,then he was sent the FedEx package.....(wasn't that nice of them to go down the list??)

Do you think the list is finalized on the 1st with letters the following day? Or do you think there's a chance we'll hear something today, tomorrow, or Wednesday?

I know there are schools with April 1st admissions notifications. Those families must go crazy.

I'm getting to the point where I just want to buy the bumper sticker and be done!

2 more days, I can't take the suspense.

How many accepted HC out of staters actually applied for the McNair. Does anyone know?

I'd love to know the odds. The other thing is: noticed a 3:1 raito of girls to boys last year. Does this mean a boy has less chance, or does it mean there are a lot less boys applying?

there was just about that ratio at the interview weekend.Of 40 present i think 31 took the offered scholarship and the ratio looked to be the same.Somewhere on the Honors website(I think..maybe the scholarship pages...) is the # who applied.

Hi all,

Please clarify something for me: Does the Honors College application make one eligible for all available scholarships, or is there a separate application for the McNair? S took care of all of his own paperwork, and he says he only remembers one application (he was accepted to the HC), so I was assuming that was all that was necessary. Help?

The Honor's College application serves as the scholarship applications as well. I believe the only other app's you might need to complete would be for departmental scholarships ( if you have an intended major). Don't worry , you didn't miss it.

D got letter yesterday that she didn't make it into the Honors College (which was how we thought it would be). However, she said that was the only piece of paper in the envelope , which hadn't been sealed.

So....do they send out scholarship information at the same time? (as in, could something have fallen out in transit?) or is that info mailed at a different time, in a different envelope?

Thanksl

The Honors College favors those applicants with AP courses so that the weighted avg. can exceed 4.0, as does the Honors College"s avg. GPA. This penalizes applicants from schools , like some elite prep schools, that do not offer many or any AP designated courses.

Also there is rampant grade inflation in Georgia due to the Hope Scholarship requirement of a 3.0. There is rumored grade inflation in S.C. also, but I really have no first hand knowledge of this.

momwithquestions - Last year everything came in a separate envelope. My daughter received 2 in the same day, one saying you are being considered for a scholarship and the other awarding the scholarship. LOL
Hopefully you get another envelope in the mail today! Good luck.

momwithquestions

I recall that last year, my D got her honors college letter in one envelope and then some days later another envelope arrived with scholarship information. Good luck!

Mom With Questions: Are you willing to share your child"s SAT and GPA stats so that we can gauge the Honor"s reqs.? Also you may receive Capstone Scholar status which is special housing, O-O-S tuition waiver and $4000.

Garrity
You're a bit mistaken. Admittance to Honors,or Capstone does NOT guarantee a scholarship(of any amount, let alone the 4,000 you mention) or reduction of tuition rate for OOS students. Its true most students in those programs have some scholarship support , it is by no means guaranteed.
Conversly, a student can be turned down for Capstone due to being slightly under their stats cutoff but still get a scholarship..it happened to a poster here last year, her D was admitted with a scholarship but didnt get Capstone.

Cathymee: Thank you for info. I was told that almost all, if not all, Capstones get at least $1,000-whicw automatically entitles one to in-state rates. Am I misinformed? Also need stats for guidelines re: honors and Capstone. Thanks in advance.

She had low SAT's, so I was suprised when she was filling out the application on line that invited her to apply to honors. Her SATs were 1210/1600 (I can't remember what her SATs with the 2400 mark were....definetly in the 1700 but not 1800s.

I honestly don't know her GPA. Our school changed over to numbers only......so some grades are high 80s, others are low 90s. She is in the top 20-25%. So, she is not up with the elite.

Let me reiterate, we were NOT expecting acceptance into Honors, although the whole application did make her stop and think about alot of things, and I for one appreciated that in an application.

One thing that she had going was alot of ECs, and some very important leadership ones, and volunteer work.

Cathymee: I just verified that, although not guaranteed every single Capstone Scholar last year DID receive a scholarship sufficient to assure in state tuition.

Essentially, both of us are correct. USC does not guarantee scholarships, especially in of the fact that transfers may not receive one. But every single Honor and Capstone student, newly admitted last year, DID receive a scholarship.

One reason for the surge in applications to USC is the prevalence of scholarship awards ensuring in state tiution rates to all.
