Thanks, newmom. Being from California (in Kentucky now), I'm familiar with the many wonderful academic options out there among the UCs. But I agree with your daughter--the smaller schools just feel right for many kids, including my own girls. Wash U is significantly larger than most of the schools my youngest has applied to, so we won't be losing much sleep if finances ultimately keep her out!

oldolddad, which scholarship did you son get from Wash U? My D is in the same situation as several parents here. We are not wealthy enough to pay the $47000, but do not qualify for much need based aid. Somehow, I feel guilty. We worked hard and saved every penny possible, which makes it difficult for my D to go to a school she wants. Her admission is approved by Stanford. Therefore, she is unlikely to attend Wash U without a merit aid.

Langsdorf and Woodward plus a research grant and University Scholars. I am not sure will go though.

Congratulations, oldolddad. Where is he considering to go?

WashU, Rice,Olin, MIT,Caltech, Mich are probably tops now but I am not sure what his order is now. We'll see in April how he feels after weighing all the pros and cons of each program. WashU is a great place. D attends and loves it and they do some neat things there with or without scholarships coming into the equation.

Mine still hasn't come yet. I'm starting to get really antsy... Should be today.

Yes, mine should be today as well, since they mailed them on Monday. About 3 more hours!

My D did not make it for scholarship. So Wash U is no longer an option for her. Wish everybody good luck.

Should we be hoping for thick or skinny envelopes?

In today's mail, I am happy to report that D is a finalist for the Ervin Scholarship and offered a spot in the Summer Biomedical Research Program. Didn't make the University Scholars Program...no problem. D is VERY happy.

Thick envelops are better than thin. D received one of each from Wash U today.

Best wishes to all.

i got the notification of engineering scholarship in the mail today. it was in a thin big envelope. good luck to everyone else who applied :D!

I guess I'll probably get it tomorrow or saturday then...damnit

I just play the lotto a lot and hope to strike it rich...

Our DD got her good news today. The was offered the Entreprenuer Scholarship and the Woodward Eng. Fellowship. She and we are very excited. Our questions:
1. The Woodward says up to half tuition, how do they determine how much.

We are also wondering if she is supposed to go to StL for the scholarship weekend.

D is planning to E-mail the admin and ask question number two. Any clues to Q #1?

Thanks

My S has the same scholarship that was offered to your D, if she doesn't have other financial aid scholarship, the amount of the fellowship is half tuition. My S didn't go to the scholarship weekend.

Well, my son's letter came yesterday -- no scholarship.

Sorry, blackeyedsusan. I feel your pain, since my daughter got the same letter two days ago.

no scholarship letter came today :(
oh well... I was kind of expecting it since I didn't really put in my everything for it... by the time I was doing that scholarship app, I was SO BURNED OUT and DONE with apps in general.

i made the summer scholars program in bio!! but alas, neither the danforth or the rodriguez, which is how i'd pay for wash u... although summer scholars is nice, i would really need actual merit scholarships to be able to attend. i guess good comes with bad. :P

I got a likely letter with my Woodward scholarship!!!
