Scholarship Notification

I really didn’t think I’d get anything at all, but I received the $10,000 academic scholarship plus the $4000 engineering scholarship. 3.35/3.45 gpa, 2080 SAT (superscore), submitted one counselor LOR, and an essay. Had a lot ECs/community service. App completed 11/17, decision dated 11/23, both scholarship letters were dated 12/2. Also a URM if Pitt factors that into their decisions.
I wanna go to Pitt, but I’m out of state, and don’t know if I could come up with the difference.

Congrats on everyone who received their awards already!

Do the Chancellor’s invitations sometimes come separately from the scholarship letters?

Still at work so haven’t seen the letter yet, but my D texted me that she received a letter from Pitt today offering the $10,000/year scholarship. Good news, without a doubt! Puts Pitt just a couple thousand less than a UC for in-state California students, so keeps it in the running for us. Was hoping for full-tuition, which would have made the choice between a UC and Pitt a much easier one to make, but we are very happy with the 10K.

Hope some of the other folks who have been waiting get some news soon, too!

Congrats!!

The invitation for the Chancellor’s usually comes with the scholarship award letter (full, $10,000 or lesser amounts). I haven’t heard they have changed this procedure.

I didn’t ask about the invitation for the Chancellor’s, and my D didn’t mention anything. But I will take a look when I get home!

Just to update - no invitation for Chancellor’s, but she did receive an email yesterday as well inviting her to apply for the guaranteed medical admission program.

Congrats EN’s mom! That’s excellent!

$10,00/year! finally! haha i’m so happy!

Accepted into Pitt’s honors college about a month ago, still no word about scholarships. 2130 SAT (1450 CR & M), top 5% of class, 8 AP’s all of HS, tons of EC, OOS. Any chance of getting money?

my D hasn’t heard either OOS, Accepted honors & guaranteed to MBA

rycoop-- you definitely have a chance. it took me two months after i was accepted to hear back. i have slightly higher SATs than you but my school doesn’t rank and you have more AP’s than me. i’m also OOS and received 10,000/year.

heard back today- 5000 a yr. unfortunately not enough, congrats to everyone else though!

My D hasn’t heard anything yet either rycoop, and I"M the one getting depressed about it. I’ve been awol from here for that reason. She was accepted to UHC, has a 32 ACT (33 super), 3.6 UW, 4.5 W, from Chicago, all 4s and 5s on APs, great letter of rec. Sigh.

My out of state daughter got the $10,000 scholarship. She is little bit disappointed. She is expecting a full tuition as she has 2230 sat score (1460/1600). Unweighted GPA 3.93

Just received notification ( $5K in state) (2220/1500 SAT, 33 ACT, 4.0 UWGPA) , certainly better than nothing, we will have to wait until March/April to see what the other choices bring. We still love Pitt though.

4kidsinarow - I’m curious about the $5000 in-state. Is Pitt now giving $5,000 for in-state and $10,000 for out-of-state? Or is the $5000 from one of the schools (ie, engineering, nursing)?

Pittsmom-- It is our first time going through the process. The letter was from the Scholarship committee, so I dont think it was from one of the schools. She applied to CAS, (she thinks she wants to be a chem major)

4kidsinarow - thanks! They must have upped the in-state. It used to be $2000. Congrats.

I got $2000/year in-state. I’m a little disappointed since I was expecting more with my 2330 SAT and 4.17 GPA. Ah well…time to look at some other colleges

Is it possible that the merit dollars begin to run out, and the scholarship amounts trend downward throughout the year? Reading these threads, it seems that in general, earlier applications were acted on faster, and the amounts were larger.

It’s just my impression, based on limited data - but it does seem to make sense. It’s easy to imagine the committee gradually tightening up as the number of remaining scholarships dwindles.
