Scholarship Notification

Hey CPU — Congratulations !!! I read where you applied electronically on 10/9 and were notified of acceptance on 11/3 (about 3-1/2 weeks later). My D applied electronically on 10/27 so we are still waiting. We are wondering how Pitt gave you the word. Did Pitt advise you of your acceptance by Email or Snail Mail (or both). Also are you OOS ??? She is promised to be notified for an EA application at Ga Tech on 11/18 so it’s a race between GT and Pitt.

Thanks,
YJ76

Hi YellowJacket!! And thanks!!

Pitt only notifies acceptance by snail mail. And the application status account doesn’t change; it will still say “Your application is complete.” Not sure if you want me to describe what the envelope looks like, I don’t want to ruin the moment when your D gets hers :)

Yes I am OOS. I have REALLY become interested in Pitt. Scholarships are essential for me to attend. I won’t here from my flagship until February (UConn).

Good luck to your D, I know good news is coming! When were her supporting documents sent in? It may take a few extra days to get her decision. I believe her actual decision will be made before 3 1/2 weeks, but depending on how long it takes to get mail it should be around that time.

Best,
CPU

Hello CPU - Thanks for your nice reply. D submitted her application online on 10/27 Thursday along with Essay. She ordered her SAT scores sent at the same time. On Friday 10/28 her college counselor submitted her transcript & letters of rec. I believe the Pitt website updated her status to “application complete” by Tuesday, 11/1. So now we wait. FWIW we live about 4 miles from the Pitt main campus.

Good luck to you - hopefully you will get a boatload of merit scholarship $$$.

Thanks,
YJ76

YellowJacket — You’re welcome. That’s good that her application was complete so fast! My application was not complete until around October 19-23. She may hear by next weekend!

My D’s acceptance came 10/14, still no word about scholarships, I’m getting concerned as well. We are driving from Chicago to Pitt on Thursday for Friday visits and Saturday’s “Picture Yourself” and I was REALLY hoping she’d have some financial news by then. :-(

Patience is not one of my virtues.

Sujormik, we are in the exact same situation. Acceptance mid Oct and still awaiting scholarships, and heading down for Picture Yourself this weekend. Curious what appointments you made for Friday? Knowing scholarship status would make the visit all the more real.

Yellowjacket, just thought I’d chime in and say that my D applied electronically on 10/28 and application was complete on 11/4. We’re on the West Coast, so mail may take a bit longer to reach us than it does you, but if and when we receive notification I’ll be sure to post!

ENsMom - thanks very much. I will post an update when we hear something from Pitt.

My acceptance also came awhile ago–on 10/8. Still waiting for mail from OAFA…

I got that “Pitt is amazing” letter today too. I was hoping it would be a scholarship. :frowning: Nevertheless, I am still 99% sure I am going to go to Pitt. :)

Every day my daughter anxiously runs out to get the mail as we hear the mailman drive up! Can totally relate to everyone’s feelings!

Chronome exact same situation here. I check the mail every single day and was so excited when I had a letter from pitt…but it was just about how I should go there -___- i’m planning on enrolling anyway, it’d just be nice to hear about a scholarship

The same thing happened to me yesterday! I opened my mail box I see a special note from the chancellor, and it just some generic letter saying that it is Pitt’s 225th anniversary.

Daughter called Admissions today to ask when they will review her application for scholarship consideration and they told her that they will start that process at the beginning of December. Strange since some people on here have already been notified.

Daughter is also extremely interested in Pitt and scholarships will be the tie breaker between Pitt and state university.

maureenk - Amazing that Pitt relies on snail mail to send out acceptance & scholarship letters. D has an EA application at another school for which she & others will be notified by an update to their web portal ON November 18th. I understand you are awaiting scholarship info but still …

Thank heaven for page 5…I’ve been avoiding CC for the last week because I’m so stressed that we haven’t gotten any scholarship info yet! It will be THE decisive factor for my D since we are OOS.

We’re going (driving on Thursday) this weekend so I was REALLY hoping to have good news before we get there.

You’ve all made me feel a little better!

Just a question about the Chancellor’s scholarship. I saw on here that someone received an invitation to apply that came with their other scholarship offer. If S has not received an invitation to apply, does that mean that he will be ineligible to apply/receive the scholarship? While the full tuition scholarship is nice, it will be inadequate in terms of S being able to attend.

Thank you.

I think I’m the one who said my d was invited to apply for the Chancellor’s. It was in the scholarship letter, along with an URL, log in name and password. At the website it said they would be checking applications against the list of invitees. I thought that was weird; maybe they’ve had people apply before who hadn’t been invited.

They give out very few Chancellor’s, so if that’s what it would take for your child to attend Pitt, it’s probably not going to happen. Full tuition is about as good as it gets for almost everyone, except for those who also get engineering scholarships which can be stacked I think. Maybe some of the other majors offer extra scholarships too, I don’t know.

So you need a complete full ride in order to attend Pitt?? They only award a few Chancellor’s (approx. 10 or so per year) and it is extremely competitive. I do believe you have to be “invited” to apply for it.

Engineering scholarships can be stacked with the full tuition scholarship as well as any other outside scholarships your child receives.

I think 10 Chancellor’s winners enroll each year, out of about 400 applicants. I don’t know how many Chancellor’s scholarships are given out to people who end up not choosing to attend Pitt. Crazymomster, what is your plan B for your son?
