ahhh i got my letter today. full tution!
I applied 10/4, was accepted on 10/27, and today 11/9 I got my scholarship notifcation. i was also invited to apply to Chancellors, and i got that essay email that was mentioned a few posts back.

my stats:
SAT: 2230 superscore out of 2 sittings (740 CR, 730 M, 760 W)
ACT: 33 composite, one sitting (36 R, 34 M, 35 W, 28 S)
GPA: 4.3 weighted, 4.0 weighted
Class Rank: top 1% out of 600 kids
I submitted the essay, an activities resume, and 1 teacher recommendation.

Yes, you have to be invited to apply for the Chancellor’s scholarship. I can’t remember how many people are invited, a few hundred seems a bit high. It’s also a two-step process: You get invited to apply (extra essay and teacher recs). Then they pick the top X number of people (I think generally top 100, maybe less) to travel to Pitt and do in-person interviews as well. The interviews are with UHC-staff as well as current Chancellor’s Scholars. The current scholars can sometimes also contact applicants via phone for semi-informal interviews just to get the feel of a person.

The number of Chancellor’s Scholars per year changes, actually. My year it was 10, the following years were 12 and 14 (or 14 and 12, I forget). Sucked to be me I guess. Oh well. Basically, it’s a small number between about 10 and 15. And to my knowledge, it’s the only full-ride scholarship given based on merit (athletes get “full-rides” but don’t get me started on it…).

And yes, you can stack SSOE scholarships with UHC/Pitt merit ones. I stacked my $10k/yr UHC with my $2k/yr SSOE. Although they had slightly different requirements (one needed a 3.0GPA, the other a 3.25).

Also, would Room&Board really be the big difference of attending? It comes out to the tune of about $8000 for a freshman year (estimating with a Towers double costing $2850 a semester and a meal plan being roughly $1200 a semester).

Since I was just reviewing all the costs of my D’s freshman year at Pitt, I wanted to correct Awesome’s statement about the cost of meal plans. Awesome is correct about most things, but the meal plan is quite a bit more expensive than 1200.

Freshman meal plans range from $1725-$2500 per semester. My D signed up for the Tier 2 plan which costs 1865 which seems to be ok but in reality she spends more than that on food because she doesn’t eat all her meals at Pitt–so some extra money is needed to cover the costs of foods she keeps in her room plus fast food/restaurant meals.

I don’t know where fees enter into this calculation but Pitt’s fees came to $475 for the fall term.

I accidentally included upperclassmen (sophomore year up) options for a normal meal plan, which drops down to the $1295 mark. Also if you live in an apartment-style dorm (Ruskin, Bouquet Gardens), you can choose a commuter plan, which run as low as $365/semester.

When will I hear about scholarships??? I applied 9/16, got the email about my essay being really good or whatever around 10/10-10/11, was accepted 10/13, and was accepted to the honors college 10/14.

We attended the Picture Yourself at Pitt this past weekend, which was really wonderful. We talked to an admissions counselor one on one to ask when my daughter’s application would be reviewed for scholarships. D’s acceptance letter, which also contained her invitation to the Honors College, was dated 10/6. The counselor told us that the committee meets every Friday to review candidates for scholarships and that it should be very, very soon for us - in fact, she was surprised that we hadn’t heard anything yet. Knowing that they do the reviews only once per week helps me with the waiting.

CPUScientist, no, I don’t think so. Sorry if my statement was confusing. From information posted in this thread, it sounds like some people receive the Honors College invitation in their acceptance letter and some people receive it soon after in a separate letter.

CPUscientist: I have a 2220 SAT (730 CR 690 M 800 W) and a 4.27 GPA weighted, I think it’s like 3.9 unweighted or 3.8-.85 ish not quite sure, never gotten lower than a B in any of my classes and the Bs were always math

Hi Maureen and everyone, we were at Picture Yourself at Pitt this weekend as well. We are actually hoping the decision on scholarship $$ hasn’t been made yet for my D since it SEEMS they may look at a “sort-of” superscore for the ACT and that will help take her composite from 32 to 33.

Anyway, I’m working on a nice comprehensive report about our weekend impressions, so sleepy after the 1000+ miles of driving this weekend.

I think my D would be VERY happy and successful at Pitt.
