Congrats!!! Isn’t it great to have an acceptance and scholarships in-hand, now you can just sit back and wait for the rest of the decisions :)

Ahhhh, CPU, I’m soooo happy for you! Truly. You’ve got so many people rooting for you on CC, a huge cheering section!

Thanks! Especially to my CC cheer crowd! So motivating!

CPU, i’m not sure if you’ve done this on earlier pages but would you mind posting your stats? congratulations by the way!

Thanks! I did post them, but here goes

GPA UW (converted to 4.0 scale): 3.95
Class rank: 4/249
SAT CR+M: 1380

Engineering program at MIT surely helped, had LOR from MIT “teacher” (grad student), GC, and former physics teacher who has mechanical engineering degree and navy experience. And submitted essay

Huge Congrats CPU!!

Congrats CPU! You must be thrilled!!!

Thanks, I am!!

Wonderful news CPUscientist3000 !!! How long after you received your acceptance letter did it take to receive the scholarship letter?

Congrats CPU!!!

Thanks AwesomeOpossum, you are very helpful and your posts are detailed and informative!

YellowJacket, My acceptance letter was dated October 31, but I received it around November 4. The engineering scholarship and honors challenge (I said college earlier, my apologies) scholarship were both dated on November 7, but I received Engineering one last week, maybe thursday, and the honors challenge scholarship today.

By the way, for the folks who get in and do end up coming, can we please do a CC meet up at some point in the fall?! I really want to meet you all! :)

I made that suggestion on the 2012 parents thread, too. S is waiting to hear from admissions, although it’s a bit early yet.

Hmmm. FINALLY got a letter today from OAFA, looked positive from what I could see through the envelope window LOL, D authorized me to open it. Inside was a letter congratulating her for receiving an outstanding LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION!

Said they read and receive thousands of letters of rec every year and very few stand out, but this one did. They sent an inspirational card for her to give to the teacher.

Any thought on whether THIS may help get the tuition scholarship letter already? I thought she’d be pretty secure on getting a rec to apply for chancellor’s, and we’ve heard nothing a full month after the acceptance.

Someone tell me not to be so anxious please!!

The full tuition at Pitt is pretty much based on SAT and ACT scores. (If those are high, it raises the school’s average, which in turn helps elevate the school’s U.S. News and World Report ranking.) What is your daughter’s SAT M and CR breakdown? And are you OOS or not? If you’re out of state, Pitt would probably be looking for a minimum 1450 to 1500 CR+M score. Or a 33, 34, or 35 ACT.

Congrats to everyone who received a scholarship. Son got accepted today and called to ask about scholarships. Admissions rep said they don’t start to mail these letters until 1/15, but this is definitely not consistent with what we’re reading here. He did not give his name on the call, so it was a general conversation. Can a few people share what they’ve heard on this policy ? It bothers me that Pitt is telling people different things.

I am OOS and my CR+M was 1380, not 1450+

I don’t know why they are saying that they review for scholarships on 1/15. Their website says submit your app by 1/15 to be considered for scholarships and honors college.

There are different types of full tuition scholarships, chancellors is full tuition +room and board. There are 2 more full tuition + room and board scholarships and 3-4 full tuition / $2,000-4,000 scholarships. I googled “honors challenge full tuition Pittsburgh” and a PDF file came up.

I think SAT + GPA + your whole application (LOR, essay, ECs, transcripts) gets you scholarships (and full tuition ones)

Sujormik, we got the same letter in the mail today regarding one my daughter’s teachers writing an excellent letter of recommendation! Very nice and impressive gesture on the part of the admissions committee. Still anxiously awaiting scholarship decisions!

The University Honors College scholarship requires the 1450 or so to be considered and usually you are invited to join the Honors College. The Honors Challenge scholarship doesn’t require the 1450+ and was for URMs (at least, it was 3 years ago – don’t know if it is now). The Lavelle and Faison are the other full rides (think it was for URMs but I am not positive about that).

Following the postings for the past 4 years, there have been many students with great scores who did not get full scholarships and some didn’t even get partial scholarships. It is very difficult to compare yourself to others because you don’t know what Pitt is looking for this year. Also, I’ve noticed the information from the admissions/financial aid office seems to change depending upon who you talk to :(

I would agree with Lurkness that the UHC scholarship is number driven with SAT/ACT scores playing a big role. DS applied to Pitt with just the SAT/ACT scores and essay. He did not send in recommendations or anything additional to supplement his application. He received the full tuition scholarship as well as the engineering scholarship. He is enjoying his time at Pitt which Awesome can attest to :)

Like me Oh well, it’s all taken care of now :)
