scholarship now or work my ass off for a hard school

Hey everyone, I'm new to CC, but I've got a question. I'm currently a rising senior. At the end of my junior year I was given a scholarship to Randolph Macon College for up to $30,000 each year through a book award. However, thoughout middle and high school, I've longed to go to UVA. I know my parents are struggling with money to afford college right now, considering i've got three other siblings. Should I just apply early decision and not worry about the SATs over the summer and just go to Randolph Macon. OR Work my ass off my senior year to go to UVA, and have the very possible chance of getting rejected.

I know UVA isn't extremely hard for most of you on CC, but its pretty competitive at my school considering nearly everone wants to attend there.

Work your ass off and then see what happens. Might as well apply to both and maybe a few other schools(might get more money).

UVA has a pretty good financial aid program that meets 100% of need. If you're considered low-income, you may be able to attend UVA on a full-ride.

Apply to both schools, if you get in, look at what they're willing to give you, and then decide.

definitely apply.

Hold out for your dream. Give it a shot.

I say continue working hard to see if you can get into UVA.
They have good financial aid and also provides many land grants and research stipends, so that might help.
Just see at the end of the day what happens and then make your decision.

I concur w/ kollegkid.

i'd take the scholarship
but then again i don't really care which college i go to

is there any particular reason why you like UVA better than randolph-macon?

I would do the best I could, wouldn't it be great to get a full ride to UVA? You can do it!

I love the atmosphere for UVA and it just seems like a great school with many opportunities. plus, its one of the better public schools around.

... It would be soo awesome to get a full ride to uva, but thats pretty much impossible considering my sats arent up to par and my stats aren't quite as extensive as most on cc.

If it's your dream school, go for it.

Why not have the best of both worlds? Take your scholarship, and do your graduate studies at a top university. Your graduate degree is more important than your undergrad anyway.

Just apply to UVA. My friend got in there and got nearly a full ride on need-based aid.
