Scholarship office called

My younger daughter told me there was a voicemail for us yesterday from Marquette saying that the scholarship letters would be coming within the next two weeks.

Thought I would pass that along.

We got the same call. Two weeks isn’t a real specific window, but I guess it’s the thought that counts!

It was a very cheery and upbeat recording, wasn’t it? Also a good reminder to S2 to get that scholarship app in.

In conversation with Admissions today, I was told by a helpful woman that she “believes” the Ignatius/Magis awards are being mailed Friday, 2/5.

Got our award letter today

Congrats, Keymom - hope you’re happy with it.

Congrats! That means my D will get hers on Monday. We are in the NW suburbs of Chicago. Hope they raised the Ignatius like they said they would.

I am happy in that my son has a learning disability and had to overcome alot to get his final GPA and ACT scores. I was worried he wouldn’t get anything. It is a testament to his perseverance and determination that he got an award.
Hoping we can make it work as it would be 3/4 sons to go to MU

That’s awesome, keymom. Send him our congratulations.

Congratulations, keymom. We are so proud of your boy!

Got a letter from Marquette just now. I need to let my daughter open it, but I could see what was written inside. They definitely increased the Ignatius. From what I could see they are giving her $7000 a semester-- $14,000 a year. She is a NMF so we can add on another $2K… It is looking like it is going to be affordable. Doesn’t it figure… now she is leaning towards going to University of Illinois. She is going to the scholarship competition this weekend, so no decision has been made yet. Just wanted to let you all know that the top amount definitely increased.

That’s great, nkl811!! Glad to hear the top end has increased. Hopefully all awards notch up a couple thousand accordingly! Did the 14k include a Magis kicker or is that her Ignatius award on its own?

Hoping ours shows up in Mpls today.

I didn’t open the letter. Waiting for my D to get home so she can do that. I just saw the figures in there and I saw the total figure next to the term Ignatius award. I don’t think it included a Magis award but I could be wrong. Would be nice if she get something for Magis too. Every little bit helps.

I called Marquette and the 14K is the top Ignatius award. She told me that if you get that much you rarely get any Magis.

My D got the letter today and it reads Ignatius Magis award for $12,900.00. If you have need base aid they will also give grants by March at the latest. Once my son commited last year his total aid and scholarships increased by about 10%. Seems that they redistribute aid from students that decided not to attend. Congrats to your daughter!

Ugh. $7400/yr. ACT 31, wt’d GPA = 3.6. Eagle Scout & athlete.

Guess two year’s worth of B’s and C’s didn’t dazzle them.

Does anyone know if only the people who were awarded scholarships are notified and the rest are left wondering indefinitely? We got nothing in our mailbox today and we live in the Chicago area. :-(

I think it highly unlikely that you got skunked, staceyglow!

Son got a letter today awarding $14,000/year. He is a NMSF (Finalist?).

That’s great news! Of course, it would be even better if they’d increase current students’ awards to correspond with incoming kids :). The good news is that tuition increased just a little over 4% next year, with just a minor bump in the housing package. My spreadsheets had forecasted 6% per year, and seeing the huge increases at our UCalif schools, I’m counting my blessings.

As I’ve said previously, with S’s Ignatius award (NOT the maximum), we’re paying the same as kids who are living at various UC campuses…and that is BEFORE the big rate hikes. One friend just yanked her kid from UCSD because she could only get ONE class that would count toward the student’s major…and that’s one expensive class.
