In the out of state scholarship descriptions for USC they say "All nonresidents students receiving this scholarship receive a reduced tuition benefit as well." Does anybody know how much they reduce your tuition?

There are two reduction levels; the "name scholarships" like McKissick and McClain (and some others) get tuition reduced to the level of that of in state students. The other level requires you to pay a bit more but I am not sure of the amount of reduction. I think there are other CC posters at that level and can share that info with you.

Thank you. When I heard that there were scholarships in my academic range that would reduce tuition to instate I jumped for joy. Now I just need to net one of them. With those scholarships(McKissick and McClain), you get the instate tuition and then do you get the actual scholarship award (in the case of McKissick $2k annually) subtracted from your tuition?

Yes :)

Also, if you do not receive a named scholarship, there are numerous departmental scholarships that carry a substantial tuition reduction.

the policy of USC reducing OOS tuition to instate rates for scholarship winners is one of the factors that makes this school such an outstanding bargain and worth a very close look. Scholarship amounts are applied AFTER the tuition reduction. Also,USC allows the "stacking" of scholarships (say for example, A Lieber, a departmental, an outside scholarship, etc) up to the actual cost of education, which is tuition, room and board, fees, books, etc.
Be aware that some scholarships (the largest ones..McNair for OOS..which is the name I think an above poster was thinking of when they said McClain) require an extra application which is extensive to say the least (same app as for the Honors College) but well worth the effort.

oops...you're right cathymee

There are two sports franchise owners who live in Texas, Bob McNair (owner of the Houston Texans who is the USC alum and donor) and Drayton McLane (I even spelled it wrong.....owner of the Houston Astros), and I confused the two while posting so late last night....as the kids say..."my bad!"

I'm an OOS student, I was accepted into usc in december haven't heard back for honors or scholarships yet

I have a 30 ACT, 3.36 unweighted/ 4.36 weighted, IB student, a good amount of e.c.

I LOVE usc but can only go if I receive reduced tuition, do I have a good chance at mckissick/ cooper?

I can't speculate for you b/c their metrics can change every year along with the amount of apps, but I can keep my fingers crossed for you and hope you'll hear really soon! If you check the undergrad admissions webpage, the director has posted a timeline for when students will hear about things like honors, scholarships, etc. His name is Scott Verzyl.
