I was finally able to get on the My Status page and the Charter Scholarship does show under the Scholarships section.

thanks. That lets me know we did not make first round. Just got to wait and see. Congrats to your D- that is definitely a great early Christmas present!

@gasenioryear - Maybe he is in line for FF or Ramsey. His test scores are higher than my Ds so I know it wasn’t based just on test scores. Her school does not add points to GPA so her GPA is higher due to AP points.

D is in-state and has not heard anything about scholarships or auto-admit either. She applied for FF and has these stats: 4.0, 2/650, 1540 M&V, 800W, 6 APs + 6 more senior year, 900+ service hours, fantastic ECs and leadership. I’m hoping after reading these posts that those being considered for FF are not yet being considered for other scholarships. To me, that makes sense.

We heard the top 2% of EA get auto-admit at the Scholars Day session we attended this fall. Also, FF information goes through admissions and then to FF. D needed to send in additional info on a new award and the contact in admissions, cboyles@uga.edu, is the FF liaison. (It was explained a bit at Scholars Day.)

We have a FF from our school with a good but not great SAT and points added to course grades, so 4.0 GPA max. Scores are important, but what I gather from the Scholars Day FF program is that top academics mixed with experience and real-life application is extremely important. There were repeated mentions of taking advantage of and creating opportunties.

Waiting patiently . . .

gamomof3 - is the page on which you see a Scholarship Section on the Application Status Check page with Test Scores, Transcript, etc. and now the firework display - or - something on the New Dawgs site?

It’s on the same page with the test scores, transcripts, etc.

To all, I love this board because we can all compare and find out information, and it really seems like everyone is in the same boat, just wanting to KNOW what is going on, and the sharing of information helps us figure things out.
@ getalifemom, your D sounds alot like my S stats. I honestly think they did not get a first round charter because their GPA stopped at 4.0, because they could not get weight under UGA standards due to the points added by their school. UGA stresssed that GPA is first in criteria, and if students were ranked and the top 6% pulled for first round charters, then if everyone in the top 6 % had over a 4.o they would be ranked above your d and my s even if they had a lesser SAT score. A UGA newsletter for last year’s charter stats confirms this way of thinking because it stated that the mean GPA of all charter recipients was over a 4.0.
Now, of course this has me worried about honors auto admit because if honors puts gpa at the top like admissions, and the top tier all has over a 4.o, then our chances for auto admit may be slim. I do think that ff/ramsey looks at everything, but the lady at the ff info session in the fall did tell one mother that if your child did not get an auto-admit to honors, they really should not be expecting a ff/ramsey interview because that would mean they were not among the top cut of students.
So, to all moms out there- please let us know if anyone gets an auto admit to honors. They are supposed to be mailed at the end of this week. I would rather know than keep wondering, so thanks in advance.
To everyone, I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of our children.
Merry Christmas!

gasenior - just to clear the picture of who may or may not be offered Charters right now.

Our school changed weighting two years ago - the current FF from our school had all pre-weighted grades. My D had pre-weighted only her first 2 years of high school. Last year she took 4 AP classes for which UGA should add half a point. I think that gives her a 4.11 recalculated GPA. I really believe those who have applied for FF are not yet being considered for lower scholarships. Doing so would seem like a duplication of efforts by an already overworked staff.

There are other scholarships and with your S’s stats, he should get something. He should also do well applying for scholarships in your community. It’s hard not to look ahead, but anticipating can be stressful. Believe that he will get what he needs - he’s certainly worked hard enough.

Enjoy the break and may your Christmas be filled with peace and blessings!

This is our story. Last year my child got an EA admit at UGA. Was then awarded a Charter Scholarship. Was top 2% auto admit into honors. Then was invited to the FF/RS interview weekend. At that point the Charter Scholarship was removed from childs page and was replaced with the FF/RS. I believe once UGA decided on the 50 FF/RS candidates, if they had be recipients of smaller scholarships, those Charter & One scholarships are “re-gifted.” Good luck to all!

Good morning everyone,
DH came running into the house this morning with an unopened letter from UGA. Our daughter was afraid to open it, but it was an early Christmas present. She was auto admitted to UGA Honors program. We still haven’t heard anything about a scholarship so she may not have the stats for that, but we are very happy to get this news. Merry Christmas to everyone and I hope everyone gets great news in the next few days.

Congrats kimdawg!!! What a great early Christmas present!!!

congrats kimdawg. What a wonderful early christmas present. I am so happy for you! Do you live near atlanta. We are way down south east so it takes longer. I am still hoping. What are your stats, if you dont mind, so I can see if we even stand a chance?

I dont mind posting her stats, but they are not near as high as most people on this site. She has a 32 ACT and a 4.0 unweighted no bonus points for her 5 AP classes. She is 2nd in her class. I have read others with better stats that haven’t received the letter yet, but we live in Madison County(county next to Clarke County) so they may get their letters the next day the mail runs. She has not heard anything about a scholarship and her stats may not be good enough for one. The only thing that may have given her an edge is she was one of two girls in the physics program this year at GHP and she has an unusual EC. SHe has been a competitive twirler since she was 8 years old. She has 15 wins in her divisions at the national level. I am not really sure what they look at in this round. If anyone with similar stats has heard about a scholarship please post your info as well.
We are so excited about next year. She would not even apply to another college so I was just thankful that she got admitted before Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to everyone and I hope that all of your children here great news in the coming days.

Congrats to all who have received auto-admits to the HP and scholarship offers! What a wonderful Christmas present, I must say!
I have a question regarding my D.
She checked her UGA application status today and noticed that she was awarded The UGA Charter Scholarship and we are thrilled. I’ve heard that many have already received this notification via snail mail, but we have not. We live in Georgia, but not mainland (off the coast on a GA island) Thus our mail is usually a bit delayed.
However, if she received The Charter Scholarship does this mean she will also get an Auto-Admit to the Honors Program? I’m a bit confused. It says the top 250 or so receive the Charter, and the top 2% of all applicants receive an auto-admit— therefore leading me to believe that if one were to receive the charter, they would also receive an auto admit or vice versa.
Did everyone receive auto-admits via snail mail today?
Also, if not an auto-admit, do you believe Charter Scholars will receive an Honors invite?
Thanks and Merry Christmas! Go Dawgs!

For those who have received the Charter Scholarship, does that mean they will also get an auto-admit (or an invite) to the Honors Program?
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Liz: As I have said both above and in other posts, the Honors Program make the Honors decisions, not admissions. Scholarship review and Honors review are two different things, done by two different offices, so I would not want to guess about an Honors decision.

To all the prospective UGA students:
Merry Christmas, best of luck with Charter/FF/Honors, and go dawgs!

I think there’s a good chance she will receive an Honors invite.

Anyone received interview notification for Ramsey/Foundation Fellowship?

i thought those did not come out until late january

D got Honors admit today in mail. The postmark is 12/23/10. No indication of scholarship and unable to access status page again.

Everybody,

Take a deep breath! May 1, 2011 is commitment day for virtually any institution. Your son or daughter did the best he or she could previous to applying. If something outstanding comes along, forward it in the best possible way you can.

Each part of UGA (Admissions and Honors) looks carefully at each persons application. You will be notified in an appropriate timeframe. Students will be given plenty of time to compare and decide which institution to attend. Hopefully all applied to at least five (5) institution with the old tried and true: reach, appropriate, and safety institutions. Your studetns has everything to gain by being accepted or rejected by school for which your student meets appropriate criteria. By June 2011 you will know everything, don’t worry. Embrace the opportunities your student will have.
