Scholarship Question

Hey guys, I'm currently a senior in high school. I want to apply for a scholarship but it requires that I must have at least a 3.8 GPA and a ACT score of 30+. I already have a 34 on the ACT, but my GPA is 3.6ish and by the time I graduate I will have a GPA of around 3.5. However, I have taken several hard classes. By the time I graduate I will have taken/self-studied 15 AP classes. In addition, I have never taken a regular course, only AP and honors. And I have a ton of Extracurricular activities. Do would colleges like Michigan and Iowa weigh AP courses? My high school doesn't rank or weigh. Thanks!

Each school has its own rules, so you have to check with each website.

Some schools only require a 3.5 GPA and high scores for large merit. If you need merit, then look at those schools.

Your GPA by the end of the school year won’t matter at most schools. Many schools only look at GPA at the time of application or GPA for grades frosh thru junior year.

^ All true. You can look at the stickied threads at the top of this forum for some possibilities. Also, you are looking at public Us in at least two states. You will be paying very high OOS rates for at least one school. Use the Net Price Calculator on their web sites to see how much you can expect for $ (if you’re OOS for UMich you won’t get anything there).

Are you applying for need based aid too? Are you FROM Michigan or Iowa? If not, you will be paying OOS rates…and neither place guarantees to meet full need for OOS students.

If you are instate for UMich, and plan to apply there, they do meet full need as they calculate it to be…for instate students only.

Start with your home state and look for scholarships at you instate public universities.

But first…find out what your family WILL contribute annually for your college education.
