Scholarship question

<p>I have three opportunities for scholarships.
1. freshman scholarship- $9600
2. join service club- $9600
3. Presidential- $19200 (need to apply)</p>

<p>The question is if I Have all these scholarships, will I be able to use them all together and get $38,400?</p>

<p>Another question is if I have a good shot at the presidential with a 2200 SAT and 32 ACT with a 4.2 GPA?</p>

<p>Im sorry im not much help on your question, but how do you know which scholarships are available for each student? is there an application that students need to fill out</p>

<p>what presidential scholarship are you referring to? FSU itself doesn’t have that. Their freshman scholarship is the $9600 you refer to and it would have been offered to you with your acceptance letter or will be(or won’t be) when you get your acceptance letter. If scholarships come from different sources, then typically you can collect all, i.e., Bright Futures, FSU freshman scholarship, other outside scholarships. If a University is offering a variety of scholarships then they will normally only give you the highest one that you qualify for. For FSU freshman scholarship, no application is required; all freshman are considered.</p>

<p>The presidential scholarship is something FSU invited me to apply for. It comes with being part of heir Presidential Scholarship Program.</p>

<p>I am pretty sure that if you get a better scholarship from FSU, you are not able to keep the lower-valued scholarship. </p>

<p>FSU does not want to award you $30k or more in scholarships when their listed cost of attendance is under $22k.</p>

<p>I would like to hear more about the Presidential scholarship. My son who is film school at FSU and started in Fall of 2012 with very much the same stats… 4.2 weighted GPA, 2180 SAT, 32 ACT and IB diploma, but didn’t get that offer to apply; just freshman scholarship from FSU. Son number 2 may or may not go to FSU(still 2 years away), but would be interesting to learn more about other possible scholarships if based on academics/merit. Thanks.</p>

<p>StantonMom: It looks like this is what he’s talking about: [FSU</a> - Presidential Scholars Program](<a href=“http://presidentialscholars.fsu.edu/]FSU”>http://presidentialscholars.fsu.edu/)</p>

<p>I hadn’t heard of that either. It looks like it’s a national scholarship though, not just specific to FSU. Or at least, that lots of universities offer something different.</p>

<p>It also looks like this might be the first year that FSU is offering it.</p>

<p>thanks for the responses. I suppose the overwhelming consensus is that the highest scholarship between the freshman and presidential would be given.</p>

<p>Pasbal, I think you misunderstood though, the scholarships would give me $1200, $1200, and $2400 a semester, not like $30000 a year, but over the entire four years of attendence.</p>

<p>I definitely appreciate your guys’s responses and I will make sure to talk to an admissions rep when I go to Preview and post their response afterwords</p>

We had a difficult time finding information on the Presidential Scholarship after my daughter was invited to apply for it, and had no idea it existed before she received the offer to apply. We called the honors department and they informed us that this is a relatively new program at FSU. If my memory serves correctly, last year was the first year it was offered and is only currently being offered to incoming Freshmen. We were told that a limited number of students received the invitation to apply and the invitations were based on admission stats. They award 25 per year of the applications received and the winners become a part of the Presidential Scholars Program. It requires a lengthy application and, if selected as top 30, it requires an on-campus interview weekend. The scholarship is in addition to the $9600 Admissions Scholarship and any other departmental scholarships that are offered.

My daughter has applied and is very anxiously awaiting the call or email to tell her if she has made the cut for the interview weekend. We are hoping to hear of any other applicants out there waiting for that same call! They weren’t very specific as to when they would notify those who they selected to come in for interview weekend. Other applicants, please post and let us know if you were able to obtain any more information!

@jimmyboy23‌ - your stats are right there with my daughters. She’s 32 ACT and 4.65 weighted GPA with 10 AP tests passed and Honors in most other courses. We were told that the scholarships do stack and that part of the scholarship includes money for research or travel abroad. Best of luck and please post when you hear from them!
