Scholarship question

I just got a pretty good scholarship from Pitt. However, Pitt will still be pretty expensive for me because I’m OOS and my parents don’t make that much. Is there still a chance for more? Also, do chancellor nominations come separately from the scholarship letter?

@jukepuke , could you please post your stats and your scholarship amount if you don’t mind? Thank you

I have just created a separate thread for merit scholarship results thread. Please post there. Thank you

@jukepuke , please post scholarship amount as @bsms2018 suggested. FAFSA is an alternate source for college funding. Based on last year’s thread, merit scholarship letter should say whether nominated for Chancellor’s scholarship, unless process changed this year.

Pitt does appear to give a decent amount of OOS financial need based aid as well. I believe it is called the “Panther Pride” award but this is true financial aid and is usually awarded in the spring (or it was last year). I’m not clear what the threshold EFC is for receiving this though.

@carachel2 Do you know if there’s an income limit to get the Panther Pride award?

@jukepuke --that’s what I meant. I don’t know what the EFC threshold is for receiving aid. Maybe others who got the Panther Pride award might chime in?

Congrats on your scholarship! Did you post somewhere how much you got?

At $25K per year, you are sitting at close to full-tuition in some of the programs and in others you would still only have $8K left to pay per year in tuition + room and board. That’s cheaper than most in-state options in most states. That’s great!

@carachel2 Whoops sorry, didn’t see the not knowing EFC threshold part for some reason lol. And thanks, I’m really grateful for the scholarship!

You might get a Panther pride need based award. What was your FAFSA EFC? I hope you submitted FAFSA.
Do you know if you qualify for a Pell grant?

@mommdc EFC was just a bit over 2000 so I do believe I qualify for a Pell grant

Yes, make sure you select yes to the question on FAFSA that asks if you are interested in federal work study. Some campus jobs are only for work study eligible students.

You should get a Pell grant of almost $4,000, and you can take a $5,500 student loan. Work study income can help with incidentals. And earnings from a summer job can help pay for books and dorm supplies. Hopefully you can get a need based grant as well. You will have to see when FA packages come out.

@mommdc Thanks for the info!

If one receives a merit scholarship award letter at this time ($5K,for example), and it does not mention anything about the Chancellor scholarship, does this mean

  1. The scholarship amount ($5K) is the final amount, and it will not be potentially "increased" in a subsequent letter
  2. He/she is definitely out of the Chancellor scholarship running

I am hoping for an answer from @hailtopitt1787 or someone with direct knowledge. I realize in years past, this has been the case, but maybe things are different

Which thread is it?

@woods1234 are you instate?
