If my S received the at least letter/OOS waiver and a December acceptance does that mean he is guaranteed an offer in the group of scholarships that went out Friday? Have not gotten it so a little anxious.
Do the department scholarships ( which he has applied for ) come out later ( in final package) ...or will they come in this batch if he is getting one?
Call and ask to be sure, but yes you should receive a letter with everyone else in March which finalizes you scholarship offer. However, it does not include Leiber for National Merit Finalists. For some reason that comes separately but it is guaranteed. I’m really not sure about departmental scholarships…sometimes individual departments are not so swift about communicating what they are doing with financial aid office. But that’s my experience with getting them once D was attending, not as freshman. If they aren’t mentioned in your general letter, call the specific departments or contact number given for the scholarship.
Chuck222 - For OOS, US Mail must be slower especially with yet another brutal snow storm last Friday? Check self service through VIP log in. Following news on this site, D checked and its posted there. As projected, it wound up being Coopers. I’m sure your S will be same. Very happy with Honors and Coopers. By now its probably a safe bet that D will be selecting USC - no matter the RD notifications due later this month.
For those of you OOS and have received your scholarship letter by mail, I am just curious if the letter provides more detail regarding the tuition reduction amount. My son received the Sims Scholar award (we were hoping for the Woodrow as his SATs were above that average but his GPA was below) but award information on-line only lists the $500 per year award and does not mention anything about the tuition reduction.
Yes. The letter is detailed on the amount of tuition reduction. My D received the Woodrow and when she looked on-line and saw $500 she was a bit confused.
Not sure how something like that shows up on scholarship page, but will show on the bill for fall term as a reduced tuition charge. If you look at detail fee schedule on bursar page you will see a tuition amount for sims scholarship or Woodrow scholarship (for ex: undergraduate tuition - nonresident-Woodrow) for current year. I think scholarship info online will not be really complete until the summer and you have to go in and accept various scholarships/grants etc. Some are conditional (like in-state lottery scholarships) and can’t be finalized until final grades in for example. Until then your letter is your best source of info.
While better than it was a few years ago, self-serve Carolina is confusing at times. I’d be reluctant to put much weight on anything there now other than where you can apply for housing/orientation or pay deposits. Not that the info is wrong, maybe just not complete.
@scmom12 and @NCSC13 thank you. I was also confused when we saw the on-line amount. Also thank you for directing me to the Bursar’s page. I didn’t realize that some of the merit award rates were spelled out there.
What tab are the scholarship awards shown online? - Student? Account Info? or Financial? - where are you seeing them? Sorry, trying to find it for someone I know.
@comptechmom hey I am an OOS Student in NC and I also got the cooper scholarship and am in honors. Out of curiosity what are youre daughters choices. I am a very torn NC male right now in which I don’t know which option looks best.
@ivyhopeful97 She is OOS TX (austin) so currently Honors engineering came in for UT Austin with a merit award. Not quite a Coopers but if you factor in travel it all evens out. Getting into UT engineering this year was extremely difficult. Her TX schools came in but we are waiting on all OOS schools. She’ll be visiting a number of schools over spring break to get a better feel. She’ll stop in to USC to see the campus as well. She has a bunch in the NorthEast to look at and I want her to get a feel for what a real winter is like. She hasn’t heard from most of her schools yet.
@jennie11 - Once you have logged in, hit the Financial Aid tab. Click on the Award Box and the link that shows up below that labelled Award History. You will be asked for the Campus and if you have an award it should show up there.
