Scholarship Requirements

Hi, Iowa is my number one choice for a school, however, the only way my parents would let me go is if I received the presidential scholarship or the old gold scholarship. However, I do not meet the requirements. My ACT score is a 32 which is above their minimum of 30 but my GPA is a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale due to having taken over 10 AP courses in high school and received all 4's and 5's on the AP tests. I also have a TON of extracurricular activities and awards. In addition, I am a resident of Iowa. Would you guys think that it is possible for me to still apply? And if so, how? Would I have to contact the office of admissions or schedule an interview? Thanks in advance!

underachiever, my educated guess is that your chances are slim as these are highly competitive and the ranks of prospective students are now awash in 34+ ACT, 4.2 GPA, cancer-curing, AP-addicted students. But the definitive word would come from your admissions representative. It may be possible for you to apply.

If you’re an Iowa resident and there are 3 public universities in the state, are your parents thinking there are less expensive options available to you? With the exception of doing a couple years in community college followed by a transfer to one of the 4-year institutions I wonder how that’s possible.

I think its sad you consider yourself an underachiever! You have very good stats. Be proud.

Maybe he lives in Ames and could avoid rm/bd costs by living at home if attending ISU? And if NMF perchance, would get free tuition as well.

I got about $13,000 per year in scholarships oos with a 28 act and a 4.3W 3.4UW. 72/592 class rank.
