Hey everyone,

It's my first post in the Vandy forums but I just wanted to ask a question on this scholarship rumor that I've been hearing about from some other sources.

The source told me that apparently Vanderbilt is giving quite a few scholarships to applicants of Asian ethnicity. Also, I remember during one of the Vanderbilt information sessions at my school, where the admissions officer told me that his school was trying very hard to increase its diversity on-campus.

Is this true?

There probably aren’t scholarships dedicated to Asian students (no idea, I really doubt that would be the case though, let the forum know what you find out), but yes, the school has been trying ‘very hard’ to increase its diversity on-campus, and the Asian demographic seems to be the last major group holding out, so you will get a leg up regardless.

The exploding growth in the ethnic diversity of Vanderbilt’s applicant pool continued yet again this year, with all underrepresented groups registering double-digit increases in applications over last year:
African-American: Up 15%
Asian: Up 20%
Hispanic: Up 18%
Native-American: Up 33%
Other Minority: Up 10%
International: Up 38%

Keep in mind that the class of 2012 was selected from a pool of applicants that was 30% (I think!) greater in numbers than the class of 2011 applicant pool…and that even in the recession of this year, the class of 2013 was selected from a pool of applicants that was 16% greater than the previous year.

Vanderbilt is undergoing rapid change and diversification on many fronts. Although overall admit rate is listed as 18.9%, this number varies a bit from school to school within the university.
