<p>Where is the best place to search for music scholarships?</p>

<p>Just plug the words into Google and you’ll get some lists. Also look locally, if your student is going to be a HS senior- those may only be good for the first year of college, but they can really add up. Local performing arts associations sponsor awards for students every year as do newspapers,civic organizations and schools and there seem to be more available each year. D racked up enough of those to pay her for her books, music and most fees for her first year.</p>
<p>But be aware that “outside scholarships” are often subtracted from financial aid. So if you think your child may qualify for financial aid, scholarships from local businesses or music organizations or whatever may not help with costs, since the net amount of scholarship/aid might be the same with or without the outside scholarship.</p>
<p>We found some nice but not music related scholarships through fraternal organizations. So if you or the grandparents belong to the Masons, DAR or SAR, Shriners,etc you should contact those organizations. Often these aren’t as competitive and they are for 4 years. Both sons have had 2 scholarships funded for 4 years and they pay for books, etc. Musically, some local competitions give scholarships and check the guidance office at your school. Musically oriented son received 2 “one shot” scholarships from local organizations for music. Also, if your child is thinking music ed that also opens up “teacher” scholarships, too. Check out the PTA etc.</p>
