Trying to guesstimate COA ballpark; The lower end of the ball park is easy to guess. The potential upper end is the question.
Does anyone know if an ‘overflow’ of scholarships stacked on top of each other is applied to other costs like room & board & fees? In effect, create a full ride situation?
EXTREME example: full tuition Merit scholarship + full tuition Bridges scholarship + Scholars program scholarship. Obviously, it does no good to have tuition covered twice. Would the second full tuition scholarship flow over to cover room & board then?
I’ve tried to dig through older threads to find this info, even anecdotally, but haven’t seen anything. Would love to know what the best to hope for is.
If you earn multiple Miami merit scholarships such as the Redhawk (the name for the merit aid from the GPA/Test Score chart), Bridges for URM, a department scholarship, Academic Scholars Program, etc., and the amount earned exceeds the tuition you owe, it will go toward paying for your housing and meal plan.
In addition, MU will not take away from your merit scholarships if you earn outside scholarships. My MU student exceeded the tuition and housing/meal plan charges for fall semester through a combo of MU merit scholarships and outside scholarships, and they sent the credit into her checking account to use as she needed.
Need based aid is another whole deal, so deductions from need-based awards could take place based on the amount of merit aid from MU and outside scholarships. MU financial aid office is very helpful from my experience, so best to call directly once you get your initial merit aid offer to discuss your specific situation.
