Scholarship Stacking Question

Hey, Guys. Thanks for the suggestion on contacting the scholarship office and we did hear back that D2 can stack her NMF scholarship with other scholarships. I was wondering if anyone on CC has had experience handling this situation. We know, for example, that NMF scholarship covers housing and tuition so is the additional scholarship money applied to the meal plan or books? Does this happen up-front or is it like D1’s phd program where you actually have to pay and then get reimbursed because the money trail is complicated? Thanks again.

My older son has the NMF scholarship and another scholarship that stacks. How it all works out depends on the “pay out” schedule of the other scholarship.

For instance, my son’s “other scholarship” doesn’t get sent to Bama until the end of Aug and the end of Jan. So, we pay upfront for his meal plan, and Bama reimburses us after the outside money arrives.

So, you’ll need to find out how that “other” scholarship pays… :)

My younger son also has an outside stacking scholarship. That scholarship gets sent to our home as a check…but it’s “paid” to Alabama. So, son takes it to the school’s office and they deposit it into his account. Those checks arrive about a week before schools starts.

^^^It really depends on how the scholarship is paid out. The local scholarship I won just sent a check to UA and it was applied to my account before I had to pay my bill. If it turns out that the scholarship results in an overpayment or is credited after you pay your bill, UA will either send you a check or do a direct deposit into your D’s bank account if you prefer.

Ok, thanks Mom and Sea_Tide. That makes sense. I was just wondering how the logistics worked.
