Scholarship Thread

Wow, I just got the 60,000 OOS scholarship people are talking about.

I wasn't even sure I'd get into the school, hah.

^Dude you're Native American, you could probably write expletives in your essays and state "Michigan blows" multiple times and still get a full ride at the university.

So, what we have here is an African American, a Native American, and a New Hampshire native who have already gotten like hefty scholarships when Michigan SPECIFICALLY PROMISED that they wouldn't review applications for schoalrships until late December. I guess all that matters these days is that "racial and geographical" quotas are met and UM has students from every single goddamn little island on the planet with thousands of different shades of skin color present on campus so white taxpayers can feel good about the university when they come visit.

I'm sorry if I offended people but I'm freakin' ****ed off.

The Michigan website says that the number of Michigan Scholar Awards "varies" year to year. What's interesting is that it says the award is renewable for 5k per year, not 15k (=60k total). It is an award that is aimed at underrepresented minorities and geographic areas.

Congrats to everybody!

evil_asian...sadly, you're probably right.

It kind of bothers me that the letter about it didn't so much as MENTION my ethnicity. I mean, if you're going to give me a diversity scholarship, great! But if you have to hide it, something must be sketchy...

evilasiandictator, I think you and me need to team up and take over the Umich admissions and financial aid departments.

Things that have ****ed me off so far, even though I got in already:

People that took 1 AP class and a few honors with ~3.8 Umich GPAs and 26 ACTs got in from my school.

Scholarship money is being given out to URMs with in-state status, even though it is not supposed to start until December. Smell Proposal 2's equality odor? I thought so.

Scholarship money is being given out to people from UR-OOSers and OOS URMs. Smell Proposal 2's equality odor? I thought so.

Umich was not up-front about their so-called "Computer Issues"

We don't know why they randomly decided to admit everyone on election day even though they have historically done so on Fridays.

Every time I call the people say that scholarships don't go out until December, but obviously people are getting them.

Eh, whatever. U-M is still awesome.

Damn why'd I have to be from Illinois? Oh well, maybe I'll get some other kind of scholarship...nothing came in my thing from Umich.

i'm with you epsilon.

This is pretty surprising to me. It probably happens every year, but this is the only year they have a pack of people allied through the internet hounding them all the time.

This forum is great. Think about how lost people would be without it, and how much more misinformation would be out there.

Yeah, you're absolutely 100% right Epsilon on every point!!!:) My dream of UM has always been a place for the intellectually excited and those who have performed at very high level in high school. I'm going to be upset if UMich is just another version of high school, and I see kids walking around campus who were from my area who I knew took like 2 Honors classes all together and like partied everyday while I busted my ass taking like a dozen AP's.

damnt, i really need to genetically alter my race to native american then i wouldn't even have to worry about getting in or paying for college either...

Asian dictator, that is exactly my freaking point! I say we are taking over admissions! LOL

I can't even believe that I put any effort into my HS classes. I am at that level where it is plenty to get into Umich but not enough to get into Harvard, Princeton, etc, so it is really a gray area.

I'm waiting on my combined MD program notices. I would pick MSU med scholars over Umich, honestly.

Anyone receive scholarship info with recent acceptances

This is a dumb question but what is a URM?

nikhil...it's and under respresented minority...i think

yes its an under-represented minority.

in colleges they consider them to be african-americans, native-americans, or hispanics. 1/2 of any of these is the same as being 100% of them.

I got my Regents Scholarship today, a cool 1500, but I'm waiting for more money, like the full ****ing thing lol.

Someone at my school who is half-hispanic already got full-ride.

Nice job on the regents. Haven't gotten anything yet.

Did you get it in the mail?

Truthsmoker and other who got merit awards: did the awards come in the big acceptance envelope or separately?

Yeah, I got it by snail mail in a small envelope today. My acceptance envelope came several weeks ago so it wasn't in the same envelope.

OK cool.

Did you get your LSA honors envelope? Or are you engineering?

I got mine, so I gotta get crackin on the essay!
