^Dammmnnn, it seems that LSA is pretty stingy with regards to scholarships compared to Engineering.:(

I e-mailed financial aid yesterday about multiple scholarships and they replied in the affirmative -- yes, a student can reveive more than one scholarship.

DS got letter today from LSA, awarding him $40,000 over 4 years from U of M college of LS and A! We are thrilled. Because he is in state, and already received the $1500 Regents (1yr only) this means next year he can go there for less than $10,000!

White male
In state
35 act
2300 sat
3rd in his class, small rural school
3.9 gpa--took latin online for 4 yrs and all AP courses available
great recs
good ECs--music related, but planning on pre med.

U of M is a great school. This is a fantastic opportunity. He's worked so hard for this so we are very proud!

Good job!

Where are you from in Michigan? Up north?

Yes, northwest lower peninsula.

You might even get more, because I remember that they used to give out scholarships based on where you are from in Michigan (sorta like where you are from in the country). I don't know if they still do that anymore.

my friend full tuition scholarship
act score 28
gpa 3.7

oh and hes 1/2 mexican

SBDad, congratulations, that is so wonderful. You are the first I have heard to get the LS&A scholarship this year, which is very prestigious. So does that mean your son will go to Michigan, or are you still considering other schools?

Thank you. I'm really thrilled for him because he has worked very hard for this, like most here have.

Yes, it seems like a fairly sure thing.

Yes, the LSA scholarship is very prestigious, you should be really proud!

Congrats to your son SBDad! So good to see that his hard work paid off with such a wonderful award. Enjoy!

I just got $20,000/year a couple days ago...
LSA, not URM, 2360 SAT, female, OH, 4.0 UW

Great mochamaven!

I see you were accepted SCEA to Yale, so will you be heading there or off to Michigan?

I was thinking, if you get $20,000 per year as an OOS, then you still owe $20,000 per year ($40,000 total)- if you get $10,000 per year as in in-state, you owe $10,000 per year ($20,000 total). That's pretty tough on the OOS.

im hearing about kids getting 8,000/year for engineering. Does anyone know how those are being awarded and what you need to get that scholarship

It's mostly a stats-based thing. SAT/ACT/GPA. Haha, my Harvard interviewer badmouthed Michigan for this exact practice of "using computers too much". I agree. :)

is there any scholorships for eng?
Im out of state btw

I just spoke with a nice lady in the LSA Scholarship office who told me that all the LSA and Shipman scholars have been notified.

that's depressing... thanks for the info.

What a grim reaper SBDad is :D.

Thats kind of ... bad considering that the application deadline hasn't even passed.
