Anybody know when Loyola will notify about scholarships for EA? Thanks.

From what it said on the admissions letter ( I got accepted EA too) all applicants receiving scholarships will be notified by March 15th. Im hoping to get some scholarship money as welll. GOOD LUCK!!!! Let me know if u find out anytime soon. Thanks!

Has anyone heard from Loyola about grants in the past week? Nothing so far here, and we're down to the wire.

Nothing here either.

Nothing here either, and I'm essentially positive that I'll be getting something. I'm glad that the rest of you haven't heard anything...no one at my school has, either, as far as I'm aware.

Let's keep waiting. If anyone gets something, please post when the letter was dated by Loyola. I'll also be sure to mention if anything shows up.

I am also anxiously waiting for scholarship info. In fact, I emailed the head of Financial Aid to see exactly when they were sending out notifications. In his reply, he said that they experienced an unusual amount of apps, so they were a little behind, but that they were most likely sending them out yesterday, Monday, Mar. 14th, so hopefully we all will be hearing soon. Please let me know as well if anyone gets anything in the next few days, Good LUCK!!!

No news here today - darn.

nothing today either, but if Jmac is correct, I should get something tomm

Thank you very much for the report, Jmac. I've been driving myself and my mailman crazy over the past few days. We should all be hearing tomorrow or Friday.

I'm very confident about all of our chances...w00t!

I Got Something Today!! They gave me $7500 a year. Not as much as I would have liked, but still not bad. I'm sure all you guys will get something, but u know how snail mail is. If you don't mind, let me know how much u guys get. I'm just wondering. Once again, Good luck.

hey.. i acutally got my scholarship infor today. I was awarded the Presidential Scholarship .. but I am a little confused. First of all, I didn't even apply for the thing because my SAT's were only a 1320, and i thought the cutoff was a 1350, but i still had a very high rank, extra currics, recs and all that. I was a little taken back, but very happy all the same. Then another thing I was confused about.. I thought that a Presidentital Scholarship is a full ride, but this says its $7500 a year to equal $30,000 for all four years pluss then theres all this other weird stuff and then maybe some governmental scholarships that htey said I might be getting. I don't know , I am just very confused by this whole package haha. If anyone else knows more about this scholarship, please post. Thank you and I wish everyone the best of luck!

Here is what the web site says about Presidential scholarships:

"During the 2005-2006 academic year the awards will range from $6,250 to full tuition. All Presidential Scholarships are awarded for four years provided the student maintains the term and cumulative G.P.A. requirements and credit completion requirements specific in the original scholarship letter."

Is anybody here doing the Honors Program? My son applied...but that's all I know about it.

Jmac and bcgirl: Is $7500/year likely to be enough for you to attend?

im reading this package again and trying to understand what is free that they are giving me and what is a loan id have to pay back.....

This is what it says for Financial Aid for the year:

Presidential Scholarship- $7500
Loyola Grant- $7200
Federal Direct loan-subsidized- $2625
Loyola Evergreen Loan-subsidized-$2875
Federal Perkins Loan-$500
Federal Work-Study-$1950

then it totals all those figures up with a Total Aid award for: $22,650.00 a year

then on the bottom of the page it says,"Other Resource" Program: Federal PLUS Loan Eligibility $18,700.00 a year

adding the $22,650.00 and the $18,700.00 totals $41,350.00... What does this mean, what is free and what is not? help!

bcgirl:
Post this on the parents forum. Someone on there will definitely help you.

boo, nothing for me today

Still nothing here either!

bcgirl,
Loans are not "free" meaning you have to pay that amount back plus interest. A subsidized loan means the interest does not start to accrue or add up until after you graduate which means a savings over an unsubsidized loan. The PLUS loan is a parent loan and the up to $18,700 figure is how much your parents are eligible to borrow. The grant and the scholarship are "free" meaning gift money applied to your bill. The work study means you will be helped in getting a campus job that pays roughly that amount (given you put in the hours) to help cover your expenses. You can gratefully decline any part of the financial aid package if you can afford to do that--(like if you think you will be too busy to work the first year or your parents don't want to borrow (but then they/you still have to come up with $18,000.

I was also confused about the whole financial aid notification, but i think i figured it out, but im not quite sure. Weenie, right now if i don't get into UVa i will probably go to loyola, its a little higher than i would have liked to pay, but its still within my range. I really am not looking forward to paying 34000 a year, but I loved loyola, so im gonna still go there most likely, and just get a good summer job, and i job while im there.

thank you dcmom for clarifying that for me.. I think I understand all this financial stuff now :)
