Should Scholarship essays be more overcoming struggle oriented while College essays should be just simply revealing yourself, struggle or not? I've tried writing scholarship essays as practice college essays and they weren't very successful, but the same kind of essays were successful for the TASP process (didn't get in, but alternate). Or am I just over thinking things here, and the same type of essay should yield success in both areas?

It usually depends on the scholarship, but generally, yes. Many scholarship organizations would like to award money to those who have triumphed over situational difficulties (i.e. poverty, immigration). College essays serve mostly to reveal your character, which may include traits like humility. I can’t speak for everyone, but from my experience, humility might not go too far in winning you a scholarship.
