My husband and I both have very limited vacation time, so we are planning on having our daughter fly to the scholarship weekend solo. She has traveled by herself, so no worries there. Does USC care at all if a parent is not there though? Could this impact any scholarship decision? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

dumbo11, there were be plenty of students without a parent there.
No impact whatsoever on a scholarship decision. Also, your D will be well taken care of during the weekend, with many info sessions, activities, and socializing with other students.
Good luck to your D!

How about the opposite issue? I have a younger son who will be attending the weekend with myself and my accepted son. Will he able allowed to attend the parent events with me?

Sequoia: Thank you! I was kind of worried about this and feeling like a bad parent. I’m glad she won’t be the only one without a parent. She is not concerned at all, but I was, so thank you.

VHFather…when my D went to her Explore session a couple of years ago, I recall seeing some siblings of candidates attend.
Wasn’t there a form where you indicate the number of people that will come? There is a lunch for the parents so they may need a general indication of number of guests.
If unsure, I’d give them a call.

There are many opportunities for the parents to mix with the faculty and interviewers, I have heard, so it may be slightly beneficial to attend as a parent.

Attending can be a nice opportunity for parents to ask questions and learn more about your S or D’s major/minor and other opportunities like Thematic Option and housing. For families who have never visited USC, it’s an ideal time to see the campus and have special attention paid to you and your student.

OTOH, younger siblings may or may not enjoy an entire day of student panels on housing, presentations on advanced classes, financial aid, and leisurely hosted lunches with other out-of-town parents. Each family will know their own kids best–but our younger sib would not have been amused. This could be a boy vs. girl thing. ;)

I’m leaving for Los Angeles today!!! So excited!!

GOOD LUCK Minnie!!!

Post updates on how it is going :)

Hello Alamemom,

Hopefully, you may have some answers to my two questions:

I was wondering how important to arrive On Time on Day 1 at 10am for Explore USC? If we are late, e.g., about one hour or so, if there is any problem affecting scholarship chance? (We will drive from San Diego in the early morning, just in case LA traffic will cause some delay).

Also, I noticed that we can pay $8 for parking on Campus. Can we park car overnight for these two days event? Do we have in/out privilege?

Thank so much.

Arriving one hour late will have no effect on your scholarship chances - the interviews aren’t until the next day, and no one will be telling them when you arrived. The day is jam-packed with activities, but the majority of them are aimed at convincing YOU to choose USC, so don’t worry that you will be being evaluated.

Maybe someone will post a current schedule - remember my info comes from three years ago, so there are almost certainly big changes since then - but try to make it to the welcome in Bovard Auditorium. It was a very nice welcome :)

Parking - I remember telling them at the gate of the structure nearest the Radisson that we were there for Explore and receiving free parking, but maybe that is something that has changed. In any case, yes, you will have in and out privileges - just keep the receipt on your dash. You can also pay for all the days you will be there at once, which is very convenient.

Good luck, and have FUN!!!

I vaguely remember having a parking pass in advance…was it supplied in the scholarship letter? I do remember that we didn’t have to pay, and that we could go in and out.
(We parked in the Figueroa entrance parking structure)

Jason and I drooled over this a few weeks ago (while we were waiting for the decisions) haha…

Oh good! The welcome is at 2:30 - danabyrne won’t have any trouble getting to it.

Is your Explore today, minnie? How is it going?

Mine starts tomorrow! I am SO excited. My admissions officer emailed me today congratulating me on my acceptance and saying she is excited to meet me tomorrow!!! I love USC…the email made me feel so loved :)

Mine’s tomorrow as well! What school are you being interviewed for?
