Scholarship Weekend!

My son was invited to scholarship weekend last year and was fortunate to receive full tuition scholarship with summer study abroad. We think (but are not sure) that most who were invited got at least 3/4 tuition. We personally know two freshmen who received 3/4 tuition and were not invited. The weekend last year consisted of a casual dinner with the Scholars and invitees, a more "formal" dinner with the chancellor, faculty/staff, etc on a different night, and the interviews. During free time, there may be a tour and the invitees are free to explore on their own or attend class with their host/hostess. I am trying to remember, but I think there were three people at his interview...two faculty members and a senior student. My son had a great time and he loves Vandy.

Haven't gotten a letter yet. Are there any chances I could still recieve one?

doremom: have you heard of any full rides (tuition including room and board) being given during scholarship weekend?

I'm pretty sure Vanderbilt doesn't give any full rides for merit.

frazzled, slipstream, gman, and anyone else who didn't get an invite but got a significant scholarship:

what college did you/your daughter/your friend apply to? Is a "college scholar" only specific to that particular college?

Is this honors weekend only for the college of arts and science?

I am not aware of any full rides including room and board, however National Merit, TN lottery scholarships (TN residents only), and other outside scholarships count on top of the merit money Vandy awards. The scholarship weekend includes Arts and Science and Engineering. I'm not sure about Peabody and/or Blair.

whenwillitbeover (soon, really) -

My d applied to Arts & Science and I believe that College Scholars are limited to that school. Here's what I could find on Vandy's website:

http://sitemason.vanderbilt.edu/files/k/kQK2Oc/ASCourses05pgs295297.pdf

This sounds as if only A & S students are part of the College Scholars program; the other undergrad schools may well have their own honors designations, though.

has anybody who applied to Peabody heard anything?

So, doremom: If I get a full tuition scholarship at Vanderbilt, and I list them as my first choice national merit, is it possible that I can get the 5000 for room and board? It doesn't seem so, from the website.

you'll still get 2000 dollars

"If a National Merit Finalist receives another Vanderbilt merit scholarship that exceeds the $5,000 minimum guarantee, they will still receive a National Merit award of $2,000 above and beyond the amount of any other scholarship."

Mine's considered an academic achievement scholarship, and it's through the school of engineering. I think you'd get Natl. Merit of $2000 if you had other scholarships of any sort.

hey! i got my package today--it was waiting at the post office for pick up! is anyone else going to Scholarship Weekend for Peabody Honors Scholarship?:)

How do students who auditioned for Blair fit into this.

Averagewoman, what instrument (or voice part) do you play? I'm a Blair major. Sorry I can't really answer your scholarship question, as my own application and scholarship notification was very last-minute and certainly not the norm. Are you looking at musical arts, MA5 or performance?

Hey again guys. Those who participated in the program in the past, what do we wear? Is it important to look formal all the time? How do we prepare for the interviews?

piano auditioned in feb. regular decision.

My son wore a suit to his interview and if I remember correctly, one of the evenings was a dinner and he wore either a different suit or a sportcoat and slacks to that. The other night was casual and he probably wore khakis and a collared shirt. Hope that helps.

hey y'all! did anyone else get their packet of information today? i am so excited!:)

received admission letter to Blair!! Financial aid packet to come later. Looking forward to a sweet deal.

congrats!:)
