Scholarship weekends

My D has completed her college apps. As part of her strategy, she applied to a handful of schools where her stats put her into the top 10-15% of applicants based on CDS. Her hope is that she will be invited to said schools to compete for the large merit awards.

She asked me if she should be awarded one these scholarships, will she still have until May 1 to make a final decision OR do these awards come with an earlier acceptance date attached?

I wasn't certain how to answer this question. So, any assistance from those of you who have been through this scenario would be much appreciated!

For all the ones DS attended, he had until May 1 to decide.

A friend’s son was offered a full ride after a scholarship weekend at a small LAC. The school wanted to know sooner than May 1 because they wanted to offer it to someone else if he declined. He accepted, so I’m not sure if they would have extended the deadline if he had asked. So it may depend on the schools she is looking at.

Thanks for the responses. I assumed what mama bear posted would be pretty common.

D1 had until May 1 for two merit awards.

The more critical part was the scholarship weekend, all three invites were for the same weekend and all schools required complete participation, so she had to decide which one to attend. One school did give a partial scholarship even though she didn’t attend the weekend.

Yeah, I’m sure we will wind up with a conflict since almost all of the scholarship weekends are in March. Of course I’m assuming she’ll be invited!! It would be a great problem to have.

D had 3 offers. Each school asked her to let them know ASAP with a May 1 deadline. We only had one conflict for interview weekends. Good Luck to your d!

Thanks Sally. So it seems like the schools would like an answer quickly, but still adhere to the May 1 national deadline.
