Scholarship - Won't Be Sending in Recs on Time, Bother Applying?

I'll keep this succinct. One of my rec writers won't be finished with my rec until the 14th even though I've been nicely reminding him about it since early December.

I know I should have fixed this situation earlier but now, should I even bother applying? My essays are done and all, but it'll look like I can't read instructions (send in everything by 15th).

you can still make if you get it on the 14th. just send that envelop via express courier and they will deliver it overnight. make sure you change the address tho because WUSTL has a different address for express courier.

I don't think express courier is available in my area. Thanks for the suggestion though.

What's the adress for express like UPS delivery?

are you sure? they offer it at most post office.

Yeah, you can find it on the WUSTL website.

if i get the recs on Monday and ship them out through the post office, which one should I choose to send them by: express, priority, or first class?

priority will make it just in time( 3 days, so thursday) but thats kinda risky..
i think you should try express overnight to be safe

wait if you send it express mail you ahve to send it to the courier address?

yes
it says express courier address on their website.

Do they not allow electronic submission of recommendations? If anyone is really desperate they should be able to scan and e-mail their materials to someone here to get applications in on time. I'll even volunteer, so if anyone is interested you can PM me and I can print and throw anything in the campus mail for anyone running desperately close to the deadline. I would even run something over to admissions on the 15th if we weren't slated to have a high temperature of 15 degrees on that day (brrrr.....). I don't believe a late recommendation should reflect on a candidate's application for a scholarship, so I'll do my part to make sure that doesn't happen. My daughter is already accepted ED with free tuition so I'm just so happy that the whole process is over for us!

Congratulations, wudude, on being all done, and thanks for the offer!

The problem with the recs is that they need to be sealed by the teacher, so the applicant doesn't have an electronic copy and can't submit them electronically. And, they don't have a way for the teachers to submit them electronically (which surprised me, I must admit). So, it's express mail for my DS!

I don't see on the website about a different address for express courier. Anyone know the address if I'm sending next day USPS, UPS or FedX?

From the WashU website:
Please send application materials through U.S. Postal Service to:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Washington University
One Brookings Drive
PO Box 3403
St. Louis, MO 63143-0403

If you are using an express courier (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.), please use the address below:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Washington University
Room 010, South Brookings Hall
One Brookings Drive
St. Louis, MO 63130-4899

^ this thread is from last year, but im just wondering, if i get my teacher to send the rec on monday is that too late?

don’t give up!!
I called the office, and although the date on the website is the 15th, they are accepting aterials until 5:00 on Tuesday. It does actually say that on the website as well, but it was confusing.
I just finished my essays right NOW… and my recs are being overnighted tonight…

coffeedrinker- the deadline has been extended to the 19th… but Monday is Martin Luther King day… so no mail will be sent, its a holiday. so unless you live in the St. Louis area were it could probably be delivered that day or you could drop it off before 5 Monday won’t work. Get your teacher to send it tommorow with overnight shipping if possible to be safe…

Thanks for the support guys!
I’m an international though so i’m kind of sitting in canada, i dont think overnight mail will work either…
my teacher will totally not be cool with sending a recommendation over the weekend though…
maybe this means no scholarships for me…?

The website just says that all scholarship application materials will be sent for review at 5 pm on January 19. It sounds pretty final, but you should definitely call Tuesday morning and see what they tell you. Anything we say is just speculation.
