I am a current high school senior who just recently found this miracle of a website. I have a 3.9 GPA and a 30 ACT score, and I am determined to take the Engineering route at the University of Alabama. Problem is, my parents keep dismissing my hope to visit there because they don’t believe that I may actually receive full tuition + $2500. My parents will not even entertain the idea of my dream school because they don’t think I have a chance of affording it. I applied about a month ago and was accepted. I also received a scholarship letter, but unfortunately it only showed I would receive 2/3 tuition. I am desperate now and I feel as if I am being convinced that I may have read something wrong about this scholarship?
I know I would fit in at the University of Alabama but I need this tuition support to have any chance. To make my question simpler, is there any suggestions on how to convince them that I am being honest about the scholarship? Thank you all so much for any help.

But, if you put some kind of eng’g or CS as your major, you’ll soon get a letter from Engineering that will award you another 1/3 tuition plus 2500.

Right now, you’ve been given the scholarship from the Univ…the other scholarship will be from the Col of Eng’g.

Congrats! (and relax!!)

You can contact the Col of Eng’g (not UA scholarships) about this add’l
scholarship.

Once you get the letter that your scholarship will cover full tuition, will that bring your parents onboard about your college choice? There is still the cost of room, board and books to cover. Are your parents willing to cover these costs? You will be able to borrow $5500 as a freshman.

Technically, I don’t think the student is given the Presidential Scholarship, even though the full tuition money ends up being the same (plus 2500). The reason being is that the extra 1/3 tuition and 2500 is dependent on being an Eng’g/CS major.

The student will get the UA Scholar award (2/3 tuition) from the University, and the 1/3 + 2500 from the CoEng’g.

So just to clarify. If I have a 3.9 gpa and a 1350 CR+M SAT, I will automatically get full OOS tuition + $2500 per year if I do engineering? Are those stats just to qualify, or does everyone get them? It seems too good to be true to my parents and I.

gaels1313 I may be in a similar situation as yourself. I have a 31 ACT. I was admitted to Bama and received the letter about the 2/3 UA Scholar Scholarship. You are automatically considered for the University-Wide scholarships when you apply, however to be considered for the Engineering specific scholarships, you must complete the scholarship application on myBama before December 1st.

Yes…if you apply before Dec 1st and submit the scholarship app.

You’re an IL resident…you’ll join the many other IL students at Bama.

Be aware that you will get two awards…one 2/3 tuition scholarship…the second one: 1/3 tuition plus 2500

Gaels1313 & AuriYMas - my D is generally in the same boat you are. 3.8 GPA and 1330 SAT. She applied in August and listed Engineering as her major (IMPORTANT). She was accepted in Sept and has since received two letters about scholarships. First was an award for the UA Scholar Scholarship (2/3 OOS tuition). These are not competive scholarships. As M2CK stated - apply before Dec 1 and complete scholarships.

We got our second letter today. It gave me a feeling of great relief. It stated that the College of Engineering was supplementing the UA Scholar Scholarship to cover tuition for 4 years and awarding a $10000 Engineering Leadership Scholarship. This is payable as $2500 each year for 4 years. You must list Engineering as your intended major to get this and obviously you must keep that major to retain it. All of these $$ are renewable based on keeping a 3.0 gpa.

If either of your parents are still doubting these offers PM me and I’ll talk to the personally if that would help convince them they are in fact real.
