Freshman year my gpa was a 4.2 soph year had a 4.7 and based off first mp grades hopefully a 5.3 in junior year i have a few leader ship positions, and was curious if extracurricular activities count for scholarships? Also i played basketball for the school freshman year, sophomore year, and have a spot for junior and senior year. However, I wanted to know if playing varsity basketball on top of my high gpa would get me a larger merit scholarship if any?.I want to attend NYU or UMich.
If you aren’t a recruited athlete, your basketball participation will be viewed as another EC, just like if you’d been in the band, debate team, or mathlete. It’s a good activity, but your gpa and other stats will have more to do with getting into Michigan or NYU than playing basketball.
Yeah i feel confident that i can get into those schools just with how high tuition is i was just looking for a scholarship. So extracurriculars arent a factor for scholarships right?
NYU is well known for NOT giving very much financial aid… and the costs of attendance are astronomical since it’s located in Manhattan.
There are probably tens of thousands of merit scholarships in this country. Some will consider ECs. Some will not. So – it depends.
