Does the news of a scholarship come with the original acceptance letter? Or does it come later in the mail?

bump, I have the same question

My son's came after the acceptance letter. It is in the same size envelope as the acceptance letter.

it comes WAY after. I got in the middle of october and then got the scholarship offer in he middle of november

This question is somewhat related: I recently got accepted to Pitt (no scholarship info...yet...), with decent but not outstanding SAT scores (2040 composite, 1310 math&reading). After receiving my acceptance letter, I received my ACT score, which was a 34. Do you think my ACT score could still help me get $$ from the school, or do you think it's too late because I've already been accepted. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to send them in either way, but I was just wondering if anyone knew...

I would send it -- you never know, they might take a second look for scholarships.

Do most students who are accepted in to the Honors College and get the (conditional) grad school acceptance guarantee get some type of scholarship from Pitt?

I think if you're good enough for the Honors College, you can probably get a full tuition scholarship. My letters about the Honors College acceptance and the scholarship came within two days of each other, but they came about a month after I got the Pitt acceptance letter. I believe if you have a certain SAT score and GPA, and submit an essay and teacher rec(s), you're automatically given full tuition, and invited to apply for the Chancellor's Scholarship, which is tuition, room, board, and a research grant.

^^^^Not quite true. To get into the honors college you need at least a 1400 (CR/M) SAT score, and for the full-tuition scholarship you need at least a 1450. If you have between 1400 and 1450, you would probably get a partial scholarship. For out-of-staters, that's usually $10,000 a year.

what if I have a 1430 SAT, but a 34 on the ACT? Do I still stand a very good chance at getting the full tuition scholarship?

My application is complete, they are just waiting to get my ACT scores. I also sent teacher rec's, essay (2 actually) and my activity list. I am also OOS.

I would say yes to a full scholarship. Make sure Pitt gets your ACT score.

Send the ACT score -- they will convert to SAT scale.

I know there has been lots of posts of full tuition scholarships but don't automatically expect one. There is no reason to set yourself up for disappointment if you don't get it. Just be thankful if you do :)
