Scholarship

I was wondering if anyone has recieved merit aid from Clemson. My parents don't have alot of money saved so I need try and get a fairly large scholarship in order to be able to afford to go.

My Stats are:
Sat l: 630CR 720M 780W
1350/1600
2130/2400
3.76/4gpa
10 honors classes and 5 APs
Alot of EC's/Leadership Roles

If you are oos your 1350 (CR+M) should qualify you to have oos tuition waived. (aprx. $14,000/yr)

You need to be in top 10% of class and have a 1350+ to get the oos tuition waiver…

Do you have to take the SAT? What if you only take the ACT? Does anyone know the score needed to qualify for the OOS waiver? Thanks!

Per admissions office - not sure if you can still apply for Fall 2009

My high school is very competitive and I am not sure if I would be in the top 15%. We do not rank so what would they do in that situation because I do meet the 1350 SAT requirement. If my out of state tuition would be waved the school would definately be affordable for my family.

athlete1010, I asked the admissions office about that too and they said that for schools who do not submit a rank or rank students overall, they look at the GPA, grades and difficulty of coursework instead

My D has 1450 SAT, 32 ACT and 4.01 weighted, and did NOT get OOS waiver. No class ranking, (small private school w tough grade scale) we are very disapointed to say the least. AP Calc, Physics, etc.

bigbarney, I had a 1430 SAT, 34 ACT, 3.9 weighted GPA, 5 AP classes and I didn’t get an OOS waiver. I think with the economic downfall it is tougher to get an OOS waiver this year. I also come from a really tough school with a ridiculously tough grading scale. The criteria from OOS waiver dosen’t take into account people who come from schools that are harder to get good grades at. But I don’t blame them, there’s really no way that you can say that someone is more deserving of an academic scholarship outside of GPA and test scores, Clemson’s admissions office dosen’t know everything about every high school in the country

Yep Pierre, we were told “the factor in the decision wast that your daughter is not an A student” so even exceeding the objective portion of the requirements the low grades were the issue. They did review again at our request, but it didn’t change the outcome. It was all handled very professionaly on the Clemson side, and they even offered to meet w us on a recent visit. We have no hard feelings on our side, just probably takes them out of the mix, especially when almost every other school waived the OOS and gave $. Clemson is a very good school.

what other schools give OOS waivers?

anyone know if they used weighted or unweighted GPA?

my DD has 3.5 unweighted but 6.2 (on a 6 scale) weighted. on a weighted 4.0 scale it is about 4.15.

don’t want to waste admission dollars if she has no chance for the OOS waiver.

just to let you know, South Carolina’s GPA system is different from many schools across the country: [SOUTH CAROLINA UNIFORM GRADING SCALE GPA CONVERSION CHART](http://www.colleton.k12.sc.us/schools/tctc/Conversion.html)

bigbarney- I don’t understand how a 4.01 is not an “A” student. After an appeal, you say that the 4.01 gpa = “low grades”…am I missing something? What did they say when you asked for a review?
