Scholarships.....A average

For the scholarships (3/4 and 1/2), it says you need an A average.

There is a chance my gpa may be 3.71uw - 3.97w

So is that an A average.

Anything above a 3.5 is technically an "A" average. And probably in good for the 1/2 scholarship. The main criteria you will now need to meet if you want the 3/4 scholarship is getting well above a 1400 SAT I score on math and Verbal and making sure you are in the top 10% of your class, probably need to be in the top 5% based on this year crop of 3/4 recipients.

When you say 3.5 do you mean UW or W? And I will be around Top 3% of my class......it's hard so not that many people do well and there are 730 students and only around 100 of them are competitive with grades. And as for the 1400 I will study hard so my dreams of going to Miami don't diminish.

Oh and do you know how they find your gpa. I'm only familiar with the UC's, so if you could let me know what they do then that would be great.

I'm sure someone knows about the gpa????

From what i've seen it's more about class rank than GPA in determining scholarship. If you qualify for one of them, you're likely to get that one or the one under it.

Miami takes your weighted GPA, and they would want it to be above a 3.66/3.7, which is usually the A- grade, so you would have an A average. You should be fine.

If I were you, I would be asking these questions to your admissions counselor. Let them know about you wanting the big scholarship, discretely, by e-mailing them. Let them know your name, they are the ones reviewing your app and deciding whether or not you are going to be able to go there or not. Here's a link, your counselor is on the top. <a href="http://www6.miami.edu/UMH/CDA/UMH_Main/1,1770,6583-1;6697-3,00.html%5B/url%5D">http://www6.miami.edu/UMH/CDA/UMH_Main/1,1770,6583-1;6697-3,00.html</a></p>

I'm also a little interested in Miami, info would be great

SoCal,

Your counselor is the same one my S had.

jdmcool -- did your son contact her before he applied to UM. If so was she helpful during the admissions process.

He actually arranged to have an interview with her when she came to our city. That was really helpful to form a relationship between the two of them. As i said in another post of yours, i would highly recommend that you find out when she is coming to your area and make sure you get an interview slot. I think it was critical in forming that relationship and letting her get to know my S.

My S also had a regionanal interview near our hometown. It was a great experience and a good way to show interest. The rep even noted when we planned to visit the campus and was waiting for us with some additional info he wanted S to have. You can get on the mailing list here. <a href="http://www6.miami.edu/UMH/CDA/UMH_Main/0,1770,29532-1;29761-2,00.html%5B/url%5D">http://www6.miami.edu/UMH/CDA/UMH_Main/0,1770,29532-1;29761-2,00.html</a></p>

Even if an interview is not possible (they are informational only and not mandatory), making contact with your rep is a great idea. The UM reps are very helpful and welcome questions. Good luck.
