Scholarships at A & M? Hmmmm

Hey there!

I was wondering if anyone knew if A & M gave out really good scholarships? I'm already in the top 10 percent but I am shooting for a full scholarship merit based.
Thanks! :)

Virtual full ride for National Merit.....

Huh? Do you mean like "in my dreams"?

No, NMFs get just about a full ride scholarship. They say you still need to cover about $3000, but then you can make that up with departmental or private scholarships.

I got a scholarship letter a few days back for the lechner's scholarship, it was only 2,500 per year, with a study abroad stipend. Has anyone else gotten this scholarship?

I'm pretty sure that it qualifies you to live in Honors housing(ie., Lechner Hall)as well.

2nd son, NMF, Honor Engineering accepted. He is a CA resident, out of state student waiver. Almost full ride 1st year with scholarships from PES, NMRA, DEA, Merit Plus and NMS. 2nd year short <$3K, however can apply for scholarship like University Scholar Award. Must maintain 3.5 GPR every semester to renew almost all scholarship. U courts him since Oct 2007, will visit U in March on Scholar day since U pay him to visit the school. If he accepts the offer by April 1st, guarantee Lechner Hall Honor Housing. Lengthy scholarship package include study aboard, fifth year scholarship, Transition scholarship, Look College of Engineering awards etc. Best wishes to all of you.

Actually, if you move off campus after Freshman year, the costs should be cheaper, so it might cover it all.....

It's definitely possible to pay for everything (tuition, room/board, fees, food, books, and travel) through scholarships. When you say "in your dreams," what are you referring to? NM? Or paying for everything?

1) The GPR requirement is 3.5, which is quite high to maintain the scholarship eligibility. How many % of Merit Honor Student able to maintain 3.5 GPA in freshman? After 1st year and subsequent year how many % left? We are kind of worry being OOS, as the potential cost and risk is high if S unable to meet that requirement.
2) Do most students from Lechner Hall end up in Clement Hall another Honor housing after 1st year?
3) What is Mosher Engineering Cluster on the TAMU housing application?

From my friends that lived in Lechner, most moved off campus, but the few who didn't, moved to Clement. I also have a friend who lived in Mosher, which is just engineering, not honors, but if you can get into Lechner, it's the place to be! And I think the 3.5 is for only part of the scholarship, I think some of the other parts have lower requirements, I seem to recall.

ucla011 the mosher engineering cluster, is mosher dorm and they put the engineering students together on the same floor, so they can support each other. They found if you can get kids connected, the retention rate is increased.

I don't know the %, but I know that I do hear about students losing the scholarship. (My S is a student there, and I have lots of friends with kids going there.)

Engineering math is a killer and will separate the men from the boys (or the women from the girls, as the case may be). I would for sure use pick-a-prof when selecting classes. If a math prof gives 18% A's, remember that this is 18% of kids who were smart enough to be accepted to A&M's engineering program (not all on scholarship, of course).

What I mean by "in my dreams" is like I don't have a chance at all at getting a full ride from A & M? Does A & M give full scholarships or is it rare?

I know they give full rides for NMF.

Ok i have a question. I have applied for admission and for scholarships and everything, only I did not turn in the scholarship application until the 1st of January, because I thought the scholarship application was due the same day as the admission application. When I submitted my financial aid application, I got a letter saying I was ineligible for consideration for any of those scholarship awards. I am a national merit finalist, but does that mean that there is no possibility of getting close or a full scholarship now?

Did you talk to the NM office on campus? And fax them your NMF letter? I THINK you just have to name them your first choice. But I would call their NM office tomorrow.

When we attended one of the several scholarship meetings for NMSF, they told us that if you did not have your application in the scholarship office by the deadline then you were not eligible for the NMF "package" (which is a "full ride if you make NMF).

FWIW, I would call the NMF office today and talk to them personally about the dilemma. Good luck!
