Scholarships at Lehigh

Based on what I've read on these threads, it seems like Lehigh doesn't give out merit scholarships that often. Does anyone have insight into this? Thanks!

My son received a Dean’s Scholarship. When he was accepted Lehigh’s catalog gave a number of students who received a Dean’s Scholarship. I think it was around 80 students per year. I looked in the current catalog and it does not give a number. My son had a 34 in Math and Science on the ACT. Maybe a 3.7 high school GPA. He did not participate in any high school activities. LOL. But, he did have a great job and an internship with a non-profit. We did not qualify for financial aid. The area of engineering he went into is very small and we wondered if Lehigh wanted him to help fill that major. He is also a geographic diversity student!

This morning I started googling Merit Scholarships. Pretty interesting.

I guess it is hard to know really why someone gets a Merit Scholarship. There are so many great applicants. You just need to trust the admissions department to do the best they can for each student. Every time I visit Lehigh I visit our admissions officer! They take such a personal interest in each and every one of “their” students.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the info! My dad went to Lehigh so I’m hoping that will also prove helpful:)

If you search the website for merit scholarships you will see the possibilities. My son is a Senior BioE major and did receive the Dean’s Scholarship. My understanding is that it is a combination of high stats, impressive and or unusal essay, leadership potential and volunteerism. I also think in most cases it is given to top students who do not qualify for financial aid.

I was given the Dean’s Scholarship of $10,0000 per year when I was admitted in April 2012. I don’t qualify for financial aid, which I do believe has something to do with it. I was top 1% in high school but to give you hope, I scored only a 29 on the ACT.

I was given a dean’s scholarship of $12,000 per year.

Afterwards I appealed for more aid, and I received the Founder’s Scholarship. Full tuition, $44,520 per year.

So yes, Lehigh does give merit scholarships. They’re paying my tuition, haha.
