Did any of you get a scholarship at Rice and what led to you receving one?

Rice's scholarships are admission enhancement tools. In addision to your records, scholarships also depend on race, gender, zipcode, and major.

True. But for some reason they do also give some to lucky ED students.

I got the trustee distinguished scholarship. It just came with my acceptance and knocked off the tuition by 9,000. Not quite sure what led to it. Whatever it was, it must have been a mistake. :)

misterme why do you think you got the scholarship? what are your stats? and does anyone know whether or not ur less likely to receive a scholarship if you apply ED?

if anyone else got a scholarship, could you post ur stats and say why you think you got it?

D got a scholarship (not huge, but it helps) from the Shepherd School of Music. I guess it was to give her an incentive to choose Rice. She did.

I got the trustee distinguished merit scholarship and the century scholar scholarship, and it was a huge deciding factor for me to go to Rice.

owlgirl what are your stats?

Well, i applied interim and got accepted then.

I think the major reason I got the scholarships was because of my involvement in research-- I've been participating in science fairs for 7 years, and I've won in state-level competitions as well.

I also applied interim.

The scholarship I received sounded like a leadership based one. I had some good ties with a few extracurriculars that I think they liked. However, I'm still a bit confused because at first, I thought it was the diversity scholarship (since I'm hispanic), but it turns out it was actually the "distinguished" one. They could possibly be the same though...
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

an upperclassmen of mine, who is international, recieved ~40,000 spread out over the period of 4 years. I'm not sure what scholarship it was specifially. Although I believe he recieved his largely because of his extracurrics.
