Scholarships at U of M?

I think I want to apply to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, but I am a bit concerned because of their high cost of attendence. It is listed as about $42,000/Year this year. My question is-how generous is Michigan in both financial aid and scholarship money? I come from an upper middle class family and I am looking for some sort of scholarship money as well. My stats are listed below. Anybody want to chance me for a scholarship or give me some info on financial aid? Thanks so much!

you're in at umich.
as for money... umich is very unpredictable. I wouldn't expect much on the basis of merit... maybe 5-10 grand if you're lucky. As for need you said you're from the upper middle class so the amount they give you might not be enough.

I had scores similar to yours and I received nothing in terms of aid.

It could go either way, but you are in the range to compete for a merit scholarship. If you do get a scholarship, it will probably be around 15-20,000 per year. I don't think they give OOS merit scholarships below that.

I'm out of state... I received 26k/year for 4 years guaranteed from the engineering school (my stats: ranked 9th in the class out of 700, ACT 35, SAT 2240, Eagle Scout, 8 AP exams at the end of junior year total (3 5's, 5 4's), took AP Calculus as a sophmore, National Merit Finalist, etc)

ncard02, a 4.0 student with a 34 on the ACT (do not submit your SAT because it is not as good as your ACT and do not bother with the SAT II since Michigan does not consider them) has a shot at a merit scholarship, but as Blackpen points out, Michigan is unpredictable.

alright, thanks guys, I think I am going to do my application and see what happens

Do not get your hopes up, Michigan gives very little if anything to OOS.

I had similar stats, and I picked up an OOS merit scholarship - it is certainly possible.

If you're referring to FA, I agree. However, if you're talking about merit scholarships, UM has very good merit scholarships for OOS students. Compared to other state schools of it's standing (think Cal, UVA and UNC-CH), they give a relatively large number of 15k+/yr merit scholarships to OOS students. Of course such awards only go to the top applicants, but they make going to UM from OOS possible for many students.

"do not bother with the SAT II since Michigan does not consider them"

...yes they do. It may not be required, or have a special box like ACT/SAT scores, but it definitely can help if you send in good SAT II scores.
