I am a Bassoon player and I want to do a combined medical program, while continuing to play my bassoon. I don’t know if a music minor is required for a scholarship or not. I am wondering, what schools are willing to give money to Bassoon players, whether it require being a music minor or not?
I would suggest you post this on the music majors forum also.
My kid played the oboe and English horn. She first had to find a program welcoming of non-majors in their orchestra.
Have you considered a college like Lawrence?
I was going to suggest liberal arts colleges with music programs as well. Do you have strong grades and scores for general merit scholarships as well? That would also help.
Skidmore has a music scholarship…by audition. Check their website.
Davidson does as well.
It’s difficult if not impossible to get a substantial merit award for music if not one’s major.
However, if your stats are high enough, then there are schools that will give you large merit for stats and that will let you play in some of their ensembles/orchestras without being a music major or minor.
What are your stats
I am not going to be a music major. I am planning on doing pre-med, and hopefully getting some money for playing along the way. I am thinking of schools like University of Illinois at Chicago.
