Scholarships for OOS Applicants

I would like to start a thread for all types of Scholarships available to OOS Applicants for the class of 2015!! This would be ones for which a deadline has not already passed.

I want to know this too lol.
I only applied to Robertson so far since I had no idea you had to go through a whole nomination process for Morehead-Cain before Oct 1.

I think they give out some merit-scholarships but I don’t know think they like us out-of staters. :(

Yeah, I missed the deadline for Robertson:( Really? It’s like they don’t tell us anything!!! I really like UNC, maybe even more than Duke but the later will more likely be much more affordable… how ironic!

I think it’s up to you to go out and find information about scholarships, not for them to tell you.

My D goes to UNC and did not receive a scholarship. We are OOS. I can tell you that she received a scholarship to every school she applied to that offers merit including University of Chicago. UNC seems to be more focused on need based aid, which we also did not get. At the end of the day, UNC was not the cheapest but she liked the programs and it was less than some of the private schools even with scholarships. She is enjoying her time there and does not regret her decision.

As a parent, I do wish they would be a bit more generous with OOS merit considering the large cost gap between in-state and OOS or at assist with finding part time campus work so that they can have some spending money for books and such. However, these are almost completely filled by need-based and there is not much left for everyone else. So she is out of luck there.

On the other hand, she did receive 22 AP credits, which was more generous than some of the other schools.

Good luck in your search.

Wow that’s doesn’t sound good for me. I applied to UNC because I expected to receive some sort of merit aid.

Same was true for my son - a junior at UNC. Received substantial merit money and honors program from several public and private schools. Nothing from UNC - no money, no honors.

Same here, my son received money from NYU, GWU, BU, etc. None from UNC. That being said, he is a sophomore and loving it. Also, with the AP credit, he can actually graduate in 3 years as opposed to 4. There’s a cost savings with that should he choose to do that (which he will likely choose not to do.)
