Scholarships for OOS students?

I live in New York and I was accepted really early to San Diego State University because I have pretty high stats and they probably want my OOS tuition lol. I’m really interested in attending but the OOS costs are really high and I guess scholarships aren’t awarded to OOS students? And compared to the kind of money schools in my state are offering me, it kind of would suck to have to pay the sticker price. If I show the school how much other schools are offering me, do you think they would match it or am I gonna end up paying the full price if I attend?

No, they want your money. The Cal State’s give their resources to in-state applicants, not OOS students wanting to be near the beach and sun.

I don’t see the need to be rude but alright then.

It is just that many, many students come out here with that in mind, but can’t pay the OOS tuition.

SDSU does not offer anything academically that your in state schools do not offer. Therefore you want to attend in order to live the southern California lifestyle. You will have to pay for that.

TomSr wasn’t being rude. He was making a valid point.

San Diego State knows that many OOS students’ families will happily pay so that their kids can be in the environment (coastal city) that they want. The school doesn’t need to discount to get people to pay.

Congratulations on your acceptance! It is a wonderful university! Since SDSU is very popular, it does not need to match other universities’ offers. They do have several scholarships available and have added many more scholarships through the Campaign for SDSU, but most of their high dollar merit scholarships are for local admission area applicants. Since they are a part of the Cal State University system, their focus is always on local applicants first, then those from outside of the local admission area (local = “San Diego County high schools located south of state route 56 and extending eastward, or a high school in Imperial County.”)

Thanks for your help. It never hurts to ask.

Snottiness is an integral part of the Calif culture, unfortunately.

A post by a guy from Boston makes Californians snotty?
