Last year I found it easy to find scholarships. Mainly because so many of them are aimed at incoming freshmen. I'm going to be a sophomore next year. Does anybody have any tips on some good scholarships for people other than freshmen?

Those are few and far between.

Even those that are offered by your college tend to be smaller. Did you not apply for scholarships as an incoming freshmen?

There are far more scholarships for entering freshmen than for upperclassmen. You may be able to find some major-specific scholarships for rising seniors. Otherwise, there tend not to be new scholarships for students who already are in college.

I did apply for scholarships, but I didn’t receive any from my college because our efc was just above the cost of attendance at UT. The outside scholarships I received are non-renewable; they’re just local ones.

^^^

Do you go to a school that only gives Financial Aid (financial aid is not the same as scholarships)?

Or, possibly, a school that asks for a FAFSA for merit $?

I go to UT, which gives both scholarships and financial aid. But a student is only considered for either if his or her EFC is lower than cost of attendance

Ahh…yes, UT is looking at “need” now.

Are your parents paying the EFC (which exceeds cost)? IF not, how did you think that you were going to afford UT for the following years?

You’ll need to file a FAFSA after January because you’ll likely need to take out a Stafford loan.
